Priming oil pump on new build

Ok so my car has been sitting a few years since the last time this engine was started and I wanted to prime the motor before I fire it up. I pulled the plugs and disconnected the injectors and coil packs. I have let the starter turn the motor over for 30 sec at a time and I'm not seeing oil pressure? How long should it take to see pressure using the starter to turn the motor?

Complete total utter waste of time.

Put in new oil. You've done all you need to do, and then some. Just start the motor already.

LS1 oil pump is not self priming. You can crank until the cows come home and it isn't going to build pressure. If you really want to pre-lube the oil system then you will need a power oiling system.

Remember, your engine is already broken in. You don't need to be real particular about a start up.

Mine took about that long till I saw pressure, especially since I had to wait for oil to get to the turbo.I crank for about 10 seconds at a time though.About the 3rd or 4th time I have pressure and would then fire it up.

Yes, but I'll bet your pump was packed with grease to get a prime, or had enough residual oil inside.

Re: Priming oil pump on new build

Nope..no residual oil or grease.I just got my motor running 2 days ago and it was clearly bone dry and sat in a garage for a year or 2.All i could do was pre oil lifters etc while I had it apart and on the stand.Once it was in the car and everything was hooked up.unplgged the main fuse for the ecu.I would crank the motor over a few times for about 10 seconds. On the 3rd or 4th crank my oil pressure gauge would hit about 40 and then I would fire it up.Probably doesnt make a difference but I feel more comfortable seeing oil pressure before I let it run for a period of time.
