Ditched the On3 78mm..said hello to the billet 84mm *Updated Video*

Ive posted on tech about this but forgot to stick to my roots and fill you guys in first.

So just after xmas i had some extra cash and contemplated what new stuff is out there turbo wise without breaking the bank or hacking up my setup and maybe make more power with less boost. I started looking at On3 again and Vsracing options. Then the bug hit me of bigger turbos after seeing Denmah's(sloppy mechanics) colorado making 992whp with nearly identical motor setup..minus the gen 4 rod/pistons ..my motor is the same spec wise. Now I have 0 intentions of trying to jam boost as hard as he does nor am I running meth or e85 to achieve his numbers.Im still only running 94 pump gas or c16 at the track.

A fellow tech member informed me that On3 has a 84mm that would be drop in replacement for the 78/75. Bingo..I listed my turbo for sale online...had a guy look at it.Took him for a test drive to confirm the turbo was all good..and then pulled it out.Sold within a week. I called On3 monday morning..placed my order and got this bad boy delivered to my canadian door last night.

Today I was gung ho to bolt it on and beat the ever F**k out of it since I havent had the chance to play with the T/A due to weather and the morning as overly not bad. then came the issues lol. From removing the old turbo..I needed to replace nuts/bolts on a few things. I also wanted to try clocking the turbo center housing on a 45* as it wouldve worked better on my drain line. After getting everything where I wanted it..buttoned up, it was time to fire it up..go for a drive before the wave of snow falls.

Got it fired up..and thought wow.this thing is more quiet of a turbo than before. I let the car idle for 5 mins to warm up while sitting drinking coffee and my nose got a whiff of oil.Key off and sure enough...4L of oil has now glazed my driveway..fml right. I look all around and notice either the drain or feed adapter must be leaking.Pour 2L of oil back in and fire it up just to see the leak...drain line..fml again. i cant fix it without pulling the entire snail off.Now its snowing..alot.Mother nature i hate you! This turns into a 6hr adventure for a 30min job. I yank that b!tch out and go inside to fix the leak. Remeber how I said the turbo was quiet ..well guess what i forgot to put on during the whole clock the turbo and final torque it doe.Compressor seal...smh. What a mess. What did I learn..cant rush things.I took it all apart..sealed it and added rtv,its now sitting beside me keeping dry till the weather clears and reinstall.Long story but had to share my short comings from excitment and I didnt even get to hear it chu chu.More to follow soon thats for sure

Sadly nothing that was concrete times. My last track visit on the previous setup was when i hurt the old block and hurt the stock rearend running up agaisnt a 392 challenger. I did 12.8@120mph. Since then its been 1 setback after another trying to sort out lil things before I hit the strip. I have drag radials now..stock lt1 rearend with 3.42 gears...few exhaust changes and now a turbo upgrade.I should easily be in the 11s..maybe the 10's if i could dead hook the car from a launch Im sure.

Listen for the crunch!

Standby as Im posting an update about the 84mm today.

That's a solid low 11 sec car if you get it to leave hard. You need some ET streets.

New turbo sounds great btw.

Cool! I havent seen that turbo yet. Looks interesting. My buddy bought the billet 7875 and we are gonna try to push 800 whp thru a 6 spd and 5.7l deal. We'll see if it can get there. Its done mid 600's on a 5.3 thru a th400 so i think 6 spd might get there

Thanks, and yes I do have MT et streets but Im still super scared of grenading the rearend again so I also tend to just baby the car off the line for now and make sure to get home safe!

800 seems doable for sure with a 6spd,what is he going to use for fuel or any meth to help safely get there? Is his 6spd built or still stock? Mine is stock and soon need a stage 2 rebuild. This new turbo looks good..that first startup was cool to hear the sounds. If the weather isnt too bad today when i get home..I might take it out and try to see how well it spools etc...get some in car clips..and stick the camera on the outside and do some exterior clips at the hood and at the exhaust.

He wants e85 so we'll probably try to run twin pumps, likely 340's. Trying to use a stockish rebuilt t56 and trying for a glory pull for advertising purposes. It will spend its life around 600 whp most of the time we think

For meIll be using 94octane all the time and at the track..run c16 through it. I have no access to E anything lol.Power wise I want to push it to the 650-700ish whp mark and then back it down because I know above that is just going to break parts all over again lol.I only want the full glory pull on the dyno once to have paper evidence.600whp is more than plenty to wax most cars around town with my setup.

If its well intercooled, no reason you cant make the power on 94 oct alone. Tune needs to be spot on. As long as compression isnt super high but running richer will help some. dyno glory pulls dont put alot of load on the setup and are fast pulls so little risk in issues. would not recommend leaving the dyno pull on that glory power and running it on the street or track lol

Ok here are some more updates.

Turbo runs great.I cant seem to keep my foot out of it.Ive slightly hit about 11psi so far on a warmer day with marginal better traction..and I say that loosely. I also spent time putting in 2 new knock sensors and fixing boost leaks.

Took a friend for a quick ride and did some tunnel blasts etc. Check it out and sorry for the wind noise at the end:
