Re: cts-v LS6/t56 swap
I helped do this exact swap on a friends 91RS.

Pro: Front accessories are perfect fit as is the engine (normal LS swap . Wiring and ECM can also be used with modifications (less than say using a truck harness).

Pro: This is a DBW set-up which is cleaner than cable drive throttle body.

Con: You will need to change the shifter, and tail-housing of the transmission. Also, the bell-housing is different and will need to be changed.

Pro: If you have the car you can steal the brake calipers as well. HUGE upgrade but will require larger wheels.

All other parts of the swap are the same as any LS swap. Fuel, Exhaust, etc. You come ahead with a better engine and front accessories, but you lose a little with the required trans mods. It is an ideal core for a swap IMHO.

Re: cts-v LS6/t56 swap
I can speak on that particular engine because I bought one OTC when I retired nine years ago. I was hoping to use the clutch assembly and pilot bearing on this engine but it wouldn't work on my '98 because the bell housing was different as previously mentioned. The CTS/V dual diaphragm clutch assembly weighs ~80 lbs. (!!). The oil pan is different. It has a full length windage tray vs. the shorter F-body windage tray. When you pull off the oil pan to change it out you have to prime the engine by pumping oil through the port on the front driver's side of the engine. I posted all my work along with pics during the time in 2011 on LS1.com and LS2.com. It took me almost a year to get everything back together and I had my car back on the road 8-17-2011. I drove with stock ECM programming for too long and finally got my ECM reprogrammed for the LS6. The LS6 performs in sixth gear like an LS1 performs in the lower gears. I really like my LS6. I have the LS7 clutch assembly on my car and I really like how it has performed. That CTS/V clutch assembly costs something like $1300 new and I wound up selling it on Ebay for a third of that. Little did I know a Cadillac owner was just waiting for someone like me to post those parts for sale. I should've asked more but live and learn.

LS1 came out from the top. LS6 went in the same way. Hood did not NOT have to be removed. My car was propped up with Rhino ramps on both ends and jack stands along with 4X4 blocks. I was working alone so I tried to be as safe as possible. A friend helped maneuver the long block during that time. Wrestling the T56 was all me.
