A/C pump and snapped drive belt
Oh I’m not having a good day. I just typed up my problem, but then my browser froze while submitting. Now I’m typing it up again. Grrrr!
Speaking of things freezing up, seizing, etc- my A/C pump seems to have done just that. I was driving my Trans Am, and I heard belt squeal. I parked it, opened the hood, and white rubber smoke billowed out. Then I saw the drive belt snap at the A/C pulley. I’ll attach some pictures. Maybe the refrigerant was low, and that caused the compressors to seize? The A/C was blowing cold before the problem started, though. The coolant reservoir is touching the A/C pulley. The plastic reservoir isn’t mounted perfectly due to the LS accessory drive, but I never had a problem with it touching the belt. I don’t think it caused the belt problem, however.
Thoughts on what happened are welcomed.
I’m going to replace the belt tomorrow. With the A/C turned off, hopefully the A/C clutch will release? I’d prefer to drive the car home rather than have it towed (obviously).

Re: A/C pump and snapped drive belt
The the pulley spun fine with the A/C clutch disengaged. I put on a new belt and drove the Trans Am home. It’s back in my garage. The A/C compressor will turn a little each direction and then lock up. I think the Sanden compressor threw a rod.
