LTX and LSXPutting LT1s, LS1s, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.
I thought I'd read that the A/C compressor on an LS1 from an F-body (a 2000 in my case) was mounted in a different position than on a truck engine. Does one still have to notch the crossmember with an f-body sourced LS1? (or high-mount it?)
I'm acquiring parts and planning an LS1 swap into a 92 Camaro if that's important. A/C is definitely important!
Thanks guys, I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions in this upcoming process!
All the AC compressors are in the same general location. All of them need notching of the k-member to live in that location. There are small differences in how far fore/aft the compressor sits and how it effects pulley positioning.
Yes k member needs notching but all is well hawks makes a notch kit that makes it super easy to do. Also if using an fbody oil pan may need to notch 1/2 in on back of k member. Its easier to do before engine is in.
Dirty Dingo offers a kit with a Sunden SD7 compressor and brackets that move the compressor up and closer to the engine. The brackets can be used on all three front accessories configurations. It also replaces the variable pressure compressor that most LS engines use with a constant pressure compressor with clutch which is easier to adapt to older or aftermarket systems. This car has a custom k-member, but it still shows how much more clearance the kit provides.
