running a/c after ls1 swap

So I just completed a ls1/t56 swap in my 92 rs. I decide that I want to put in the a/c system. So I installed LS1 a/c compressor and bracket last night. When turning to the left the idler arm on the steering linkage hits the compressor. I lowered the idler arm as low as possible on frame and it still hits. Any ideas to make work?

Cant remember who's car or thread, but they were able to dremel down the ridge on the AC compressor to gain enough clearance.

If you "run into this issue" it means your car is wadded up.

Re: running a/c after ls1 swap

We had the issue with my dad's '89 IROC-Z with an LS1 swap and a/c. We took the idler arm off and I believe our fix was slotting the holes on it so we could adjust it more than before. That seemed to be the trick for us. Good luck!

Re: running a/c after ls1 swap

thanks ill try enlongating the holes to get more adjustment first, if not then ill dremel the compressor for clearance.

Re: running a/c after ls1 swap

All this talk about moving the idler arm, doesn't it have to be horizontal with the ground in order for it to work properly? I know when I rebuilt my front end last year, I spend a lot of time getting it perfect. Either way, Jimmy, I cant wait to see the car!
