I've been saving up for a car since I was about 7 or 8, and wanted one before then. I've always been a Chevy man, but my search for cars consisted of Camaros, Firebirds and Mustangs. My first car that was actually still availible when I called (all the others weren't) was a '95 Camaro Z-28, so it had the LT-1, and also Flowmasters, those weird taillights and it was black. The deal fell through after we had put a deposit down on the car and he said he'd keep it for me. Well, I was pissed, but I got over it. (This was a 30 minute trip both ways, but it was a few blocks away from my grandparents, so it was sort of okay). The next car I set up to go look at was an '88 IROC-Z with a 350 and it was nearly fully loaded aside from leather. My dad and I drove the 45 minutes it took to get there to go look at it, and the wife of the seller wasn't home - waste of gas. So later that day, I filled my friend's gas tank up ($30) and we went out there again, I looked at the car, drove it, and expressed a ton of interest in it. She asked me if I would like her to hold the car so my dad could come look at it, and perhaps we could buy it. As my dad and I were getting ready to go out there two days after, she called me and told me the car was gone because someone came with cash the day before. This time I was very angry - as was my dad. What a load of bull, obviously, no one can be trusted anymore. Finally, scrolling through Autotrader's online used car section, I came accross an '86 IROC-Z. This time, I didn't let the deal fall through. I bought it the day I looked at it.
So, this is my car:

It has the LB9 Tuned Port Injection 305ci motor with a 700-R4 transmission. Previous to me buying the car, someone already put Edelbrock TES Headers on it, some Proform Bow-Tie valvecovers with the race bolt things. It has a Flo-Pro muffler in the back and sounds mean as hell. It also has a Hypertech chip and most likely a different cam.
By the way, that first picture is my car sitting right up on Woodward Avenue.

Very nice. Looks like my 86. Enjoy. Badman

BTW, looking at engine bay pics I noticed what looks like a possible brake fluid leak under the master cylinder. Check it out.

Yeah..now that you mention it...I haven't noticed any on the ground, though. It leaks a tiny bit of trans fluid, but that's it (for now). When I bought it, the timing cover was leaking (from being bored by the harmonic balencer) - obviously, that's been fixed. Thanks for that notification, I'll have a looksie tomorrow.

Best thing to do is give engine bay and underneath a bath. Then it's easier to see leaks when everything else is clean and dry. Just be careful. Don't hose your dist. and other electronics. B

Looks nice. I feel sorry for the poor airdam though.
very nice for a first car. take good car of her and don't abuse her. i've lost my first one cause i didn't respect it.

Looks great, looks like its got headers on it too. Also dont park so close to the curb! Kills me when i see camaros hanging over sidewalks lol. Im sure it makes a nice scraping sound as the air dam goes over it. Actually you may not have an air dam or id think ud stop once that hit, check under there tommaro so you dont have any cooling problems.
Yeah...I don't think I have an airdam, but I've never had any cooling issues, I don't think... I can pull up as far as the tires...Whatever.
Just got new Falken tires, a new head unit (Estone Ripper 110), a Code-Alarm with car start...so I (via my dad) spent about $950 today.
Too bad I have to buy 4 new center caps for the rims...

look out for those falkens...i had a set on my t/a, they wore out in less than a year, i mean sure i did some burnouts and such but the fronts got wrecked! i didnt even take turns that hard lol...i got some yokohoma's now and i'm quite pleased, they caem with a lot more tread than the falkens, maybe i just got some crappy ones though lol and enjoy the car, my t/a was the second car i got (had a nissan stanza for 2 years) and i lovethis thing...ive been driving it every day for 4 years now, it has 140 k on her and shes still running strong!

Looks like a good first car. I'd learn to park it though. Your going to get used to parking up by the tires and there's gonna be a high curb that takes your front end off. I would also invest in an airdam. Better safe than sorry. Good luck with her and keep us updated.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Falkens are a softer tire, but it was about $200 more total for Yokohamas. I don't drive really far a lot.

Don't worry. He will learn how to park to keep both the air dam and the spoiler from getting damaged.
Nice car. work on that engine bay tho,
Nice car. work on that engine bay tho,
God I love tires with tread!
So I took some more photos.

The front of the car, which is still clean (I see no airdam)

The new Falkens (front right)

The tread looks pretty neat. This is supposed to be a great all-weather tire. My old ones barely had any tread left and driving in the rain could be eventful - and fun. (My friend has a probe and likes to ebrake around turns in the rain or even on dry pavement or gravel. I just hit the gas, I love it.)

The back end (which is dirty...ugh, have to wash the car again)

The interior (new Estone Ripper 110 head unit in place)

My MTX Sub and Kenwood Amp
The only thing I wish I had done before getting the new tires was a giant burnout. Oh well.
I cleaned up most of the grime in the engine bay about a week after taking those photos... I'll take better ones later.

haha i had those same tires! lol this guy reccomended them and swore them to me...but i didnt have good luck with them, i hope you do though....nice car and i cant wait to see more pics of this on here soon
They're 245/50ZR16s
Moved the sub around a little while ago.

And then was just messing around with some pictures I took recently. The sky was really red and the leaves gave it the perfect look with the car - except they came out blurry. So I photoshopped one of the pictures, and came up with my new background.

Gorgeous!! I jut love a red car. Good luck with it.

More pictures!
These two I took for my psychology project - I starred in those ones - as did the 'maro.

When I took these pictures I pretty much assumed this would be the last day for my t-tops to be off. What a nice fall day (60 degrees and sunny!)
This is one hell of a good shot.

Now a few shots of the engine - the engine bay is...sorta clean (better than the original engine shots, certainly).

good thing you only need to hit the gas, chances are your e-brake doesn't work Originally Posted by MP81

Awesome car, love her, be good to her, and she will return the favor Originally Posted by MP81

Glad to see you are already realizing that it never just cost you the price to buy the car when you get one of these. The spending, fixing, and upgrading never ends. I got my car for $1500 and turned around and burned $2000 in one month. Now I am about to put another $2000+ into paint, exhaust, and fixing things.
Enjoy it
...Snow...
I just got stuck after backing out of my driveway...Speedo said 70, I said, 0.
Anyways, here's photos of my car + snow.
Some snow is fun to drive on (or do donuts in parking lots with) - this is too much, I can't drive the car...
Back on the 1st of December, not a whole lot of snow - tons of fun driving on...

Then pictures I took today, after the ton of snow we got yesterday... (We did get a snow day today, though...)

ha.. i love it when it snows.. laying on all the cars. t looks so scenic.. at least for suburbia lol.
they are not winter cars...... Leave it parked and don't let the salt get ahold of her
I don't have anything else to drive...
I wash it every other weekend.

Yay!
I just put in my new subs

New (Dual JL Audio 12W1V2-4s):

Should turn the subs the other way so they look right side up. Stop parking way over the curb like that too, anytime I see that I cringe. Cool looking car though.
The subs are right side up when viewed from the back - like normal people have it.
I don't have an airdam, I try not to park that far up, but sometimes it happens...

Yeah, it's heavy. But it will help a ton in the snow, since I have to drive this during the winter.

Reminds me of back in the day when my camaro was a daily driver. I remember one winter carrying around a shovel just so I could shovel snow out of the way at intersections. (Where it piled up when they scraped the streets, not to mention the car was lowered)

Yeah, it goes a lot better in the snow with the new sub box in - lots more weight in the back (well, like 2.5 times as heavy as the 10" MTX and Box).
I really don't like having to drive it in the winter, I do plan on getting a winter vehicle next year (hopefully during the summer), so I can just park this thing during the winter.

That's a nice looking IROC. Keep up the good work. Except for the hood and wheels, it looks similar to, but better than my 89 RS. I know the feeling of putting all that money back into a ride, I spent $3000 and have almost that much into mine, and all I've fixed are the clutch, brakes, suspension and wheels.
Whereabouts in Michigan are you? I used to live out there before Uncle Sam displaced me to a few places and ended up here in Western Washington.

I was just wondering, where did you get that box that you had your old MTX in? I have a single 10" sitting in my room because I could never figure a way to get it in the car.
It came with the car.

Cool, I lived in Owosso, between Flint and Lansing. I was all too familiar with the hazards of Mother Nature and what we did to combat them (i.e. salt). Good luck with the search for a winter ride and keep up the hard work on this one.

I only say this because it looks stupid with the speakers facing the opposite way. When you open the hatch for whatever reason, I'm sure you'd want things right side up no? Do whatever you wish as it's your car, but I was just saying it would look 10x better with the speakers facing the "proper" direction. I won't say anything about the way you park it as others have mentioned it enough. Again, nice car.Originally Posted by MP81

Act like a jerk much? It is his car, let him do what he wants with it. Just because you can't handle the car in the snow doesn't mean it can't be done.Originally Posted by rwdtech

I do recommend throwing some POR-15 on the underside of the car when you get a chance to make sure it will never rust. The car looks great, I wish mine would have looked like that when I got it
