And now I blew the bottom half of the motor in my Grand Am racing a Civic after school Monday. I'm supposed to pick up the new 3.1L I found for $250 tommorrow and start swapping engines. Needless to say I beat him before I blew it.

BTW, I pay about $980/year for insurance. I'm primary on the Grand Am, and I've already talked to the insurance agent and it's only gonna be about $300-400 to add the Trans Am to our policy with my dad being primary on it. So for about $1300-1400 out of my pocket I'll have 2 cars insured.
ya i hopen my insurance wont be to much. right nowmy camaro is not insured because im onley 14 and it dosent drive to much but i need to get it insured when i get my perment (in a month or so hopfully) and my parents wont pay cause my grades r.. well right now im in math class but im on the website so im sure u can figure what my grades r like lol so im hopen it wont b to much caue i dont have eny way to make money

Oh the joy's of insurance
2800?? Holy crap dude lol. For my fourth gen (350) its roughly 1700 a year. Theres gotta be something wrong somewhere. I also have my winter beater (sunfire gt) and thats somewhere around 1400 a year. I think you need a new insurance company

Re: My hard earned 1st car 86 iroc

Yea wow $2,800 for a single year is outrageous! That's over $200 per month. Even BEFORE I got the classic policy on my Camaro and it was just a regular full coverage policy with $100 deduction for collision and $250 deduction for comprehensive, insured against uninsured drivers, road side assistance, medical coverage, and all the other good stuff, it was only like $100 a month, give or take a few dollars. State Farm Insurance for the win. Now my monthly bill is $16 for the Z28, fully insured with all that stuff.

Agreed, I cant stand people who have things just handed to them, they usually have a lot less respect for them.

Re: My hard earned 1st car 86 iroc

well since every1 else is doing it i will too lol

i started buying cars when i was 15, i bought my first TA january of 06

i drove this car about 1 month and blew the transmission, i sat and thought about what i should do for around 2 months and decided to sell it , i found the car today and am in the process of trying to get it back. my next car was a mustang

it was a 98, pi intake manifold, o/r xpipe, flows, and a powerdyne running 6lbs of boost, i sold the car for 7k and the blower for 1k a week later, this was purchased may 21st of 06(just before my 16th bday) and sold january 2nd of 08
my next car was back on the fbody side of things

this car was purchased modded, and i blew the motor up the 2 days after i bought it (so january 4th of this year as i bought it the day i sold the mustang). i then sold the car to a family member at a very reasonable price and went ahead and got a more family oriented car

this car was purchased last friday at an auction for 800 dollars, runs good, but i bought it with the intentions of DD it while i get either another 3rd gen or 4th gen to tear into(which is why im back on this site after a 2 year vacation)...

and the reason for the peon

and guys, im 17, ive been working and paying for these cars all alone for the past couple years, and i intend to do it for quite some time, insurance has always been with my parents being primary so i can afford to mod my cars or else i get angry and sell them .

(Not dissin 15 year olds, but i was a different 15 year old lol)

did i like miss my teen years or something

This thread is depressing...very

Im 20 years old and I bought my Firebird SE 305 V8 for $500 Cnd just a few months ago...yet i can't afford to do ANYTHING at all to it cause im going back to school.

I drive the **** out of it tho and abuse it...i feel like a terribly aggressive driver but this cars a blast.

Life sucks yo

Why...are ....alll....third gen owners soooooo young...these seem like cars middle aged people would be ALLL OVER (my dad?)...since u knw...they probly had them as kids....but no? this is trippy guys

and 17 years old with a baby buying sellin moddin cars left and right? whooaaaa...props man...u eithier got a good head on your shoulders or rich parents or something

nuts

**** i live on my own and can't even afford to feed myself sometimes let alone car parts..

Please tell me...what are you young kids doing these days to get so far ahead at such a young age?

lol, ya alot of people think what i do with my cars is pretty dumb but i tend to end up breaking pretty close to even, i got a couple people trying to buy the neon for 1400, which is a good profit for a car i only have for a couple days... my parents are far from rich, they split up when i was young, mom is unemployed and my dad is retired military... i just work for civilian services on my local Airforce base, pays the bills nicely

Wicked man, I'm a network technician but i make BS money...but i always will untill i go back to school...which probly another 5 or 6 years then longer untill i have any sort of money for cars.

Even tho your selling your cars cause they blow up...I still never understood why some people buy cars and try to sell them higher prices...i mean while your waiting to sell it your out that money u bought it for anyways??? and yet even if you do sell it for more...the cost of fixing it up will add up over any kind of profit???

I just cant understand that...seems like to much hassle for to little gain

But props mang...

I've been saving up for college since I was very young (all my birthday money, ect), then when I was 14 my parents decided that 3 grand won't go very far for college so they let me spend some of it

Re: My hard earned 1st car 86 iroc

When I turned 16 my mom said I need to stop playing video games and get a job. So I got one job and she said I still played video games too much and I need to either study more or get a second job. Since I hate studying, I opted for the second job. So here I am... two jobs, 16 years old, and making 150-200 a week.

---------------
It also helps that my dad is a gear head and is willing to help me out with many things. For example, he is willing to split the cost of some R-compound tires with me since I plan on letting him race it every now and again.

Re: My hard earned 1st car 86 iroc

i went to ur car page and your car sounds nice

i was 15 when i first got my 86 iroc z28, i'm 16 now and drive it on a daily basis, with an amazing system! two 12's and a mean huge amp. I absolutely love my car. Though it does need a lot of adjustments, the interior is in a decent condition, needs a new paint job, and im looking for the original rims for it also(PM ME if you know who is selling) also need a couple body parts. I love my car and don't intend to sell it. ever. Also where can i look to check if i have a 305 or a 350?? too be to technical im not a greasemonkey lol im wanting to learn a lot of things about cars tho.

So have you traded your "video game addiction" for becoming a gear head yet ??

I dont know where you work, but you should really look into doing something part-time at an oil change or tire shop. I loved working in a shop!

Well you can add me to this list as well. Bought my first car when i was 17. Originally the guy wanted 4700 because he said he put a new true dual exhaust on it, but i knew the body wasn't mint, so i eventually talked him down to 3200.

So far i've already put in a 355 in place of the 305.

out with the old

being replaced by this sucker.

I'm still into video games but I have stopped playing most shooters and such and buy mostly racing games (Gran Turismo 3&4, need for speed, midnight club...).

I'm a UC (utility clerk... a.k.a. "Bag boy") and I work at a place called Fun Services. I set up the giant bounce houses and inflatable stuff like that. I was thinking about getting into the automotive field but I figured I would just make it a hobby and focus on what I want to do after college (Architect). Since I already have two jobs, I'm pretty busy trying not to tick off my employers saying "oh sh**" I am already scheduled to work at my other job on that day.

Re: My hard earned 1st car 86 iroc

I got my 1988 firebird with it's wimpy *** 2.8 from a boneyard shortly after I turned 16. It's currently my DD with horrible mileage and all.

I bought my Z28 from a cop . Just got it goin, and I finally have some V8 power under the hood, and I gotta tell ya - it feels good.

Oh yeah -

My god. I pay a little over 300/yr. for the insurance on my Z28.

It's listed as my "secondary driver" and only has liability. It's a sweet deal.

The 88 'bird is the primary and it runs me a little over 600 a year.

*sorry guys - I responded to a post on the last page

I am 16 and I also got my first camaro(1989) except its a 2.8 but I aint complaining I love that car. Its good to know other young guys are into camaros as well. I also have a 86 300zx but it aint running. I guess I like the idea of T-tops.

I would really like to see some pics of that 87 supra turbo. those cars are sweet.

Re: My hard earned 1st car 86 iroc

Rather than make a new thread, I decided to bump my old one with some recent updates I've been doing. The car looks bad now but I finally got it running good by swapping sensors/prom/injectors over to 350 spec since I found out a 350 was swapped in. Previous owners just bolted in a 350(looks like a truck motor) and hooked up all the original 305 equipment.

I put Pioneer DEH-6400BT Bluetooth head units in both of my cars, this is the pic from the blazer but it's exactly the same, minus the color scheme which I made blue in the camaro.

Recently found a borg warner 3.27 posi and aluminum driveshaft off of a GTA (non pbr brakes) from the junkyard, got the proportion valve too of course.

The brakes, control arms, and shocks had to be cut or broken off. Fluid was a little dark but no shavings at all.

Decided to hit it with a wire real quick and give it a couple quick coats of paint so it will look better when it's underneath the car and no one can see it.

Also decided to go with LT1 rear brakes since everything including lines needed to be replaced. More pics when that stuff comes in, or I do more work to the car.

Most recent pic with my back-up vehicle

Car looks great! For some reason I really like the look of the flat black front ground effects.

ya the original one got torn up, this is just an unpainted replacement piece. I keep saying I will get it painted but it may never happen.

Thanks guys! Thought the car was running well but now some issues have popped up, so rich it's blowing smoke out the tailpipes at idle, fuel pressure good have some more troubleshooting. So frustrating, I just want to get back to driving it everyday.
