Re: My hard earned 1st car 86 iroc

i feel that pain of the wrecks, i had an ex wipe out my drivers door, now im playing hell geting a door skin for it because the body shops are lazy as hell here and wont go an extra mile to do something....... they told me just put a junk yard door on it, i said WHY???? this one can be reskined in a day..... yea but its easier and cheaper to put a junk yard door on it, so i said well why don you put a junk yead door on your cadillac out there, then told him he wasnt worth my time, and now looking for another good body shop, dang being in a small town

Thank you for a new background

Wow, theres is a damn lot of 15 - 19 year old's on here. I got my first '85 Z28 when i was 15. Turned out to be a peice. Bought my '89 iroc 3 months before i turned 16. Now 17, its a show car (see my pic), it has an LS1 in it, 4th gen interior, LS1 brakes, LS1 WS6 wheels, brand new paint, LS1 rear, Magnaflow exhaust etc etc. It was my 16th birthday present. Cost us $1800. Since then ive invested well over $6000 getting it to what i like. Its a keeper. I dont intend on selling the car anytime before im 6ft under. The LS1 is temporary untill i finish university, and buy an LS3, or L92 and replace the motor.

My AIM is "SheldonZ28" If anyone wants to add me
----------
Speaking of money paid for your car. I was lucky enough to get mine for my birthday. It was in decent shape, but needed work.

Oh the joy's of having rich parents. Makes me wish they would share with me . Speaking of which. They proved a couple week's back, that im certainly not the favorite. My younger brother (gamer kid, never fights with them, never gets in trouble or anything) decided he didnt want to work on cars. So he ended up with a '07 F-150 Lariat.

really nice car, im sure youll take care of it.

How do you like the 700r4 with the shift kit. I am considering getting one but dont want to get one before I know it wont be annoying shifting hard all the tome.

Also, did you put it in? If so how easy was it to install?

the hard shifting is not annoying at all...its friggin sweet. keeps my parents from wanting to go anywhere in the car with me. i did not put it in. the prev. owners got it done at a shop a couple months before i bought it. they basically had the whole tranny rebuilt and added the shiftkit

Re: My hard earned 1st car 86 iroc

Since this is the young guns thread, I guess I'll show off my car. I got it a couple months after my 16th birthday ($3200 of my own). It is an 87 IROC with a 305 TPI, 700R4... bone stock except for a Sony head unit. I don't want a fancy paint job or perfect body panels, I just don't want rust so I'm driving my Ford Tempo during the Wisconsin winter. I plan on beating on it this spring/summer too (I autocross). I'll be throwing on some Koni yellows and probably springs and strut mounts if the snow ever decides to leave. Oh yeah... I'll be turning 17 on March 23.

For pics visit my VB garage and my car domain is http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2958228

For pics visit my VB garage and my car domain is http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2958228
thats a really nice iroc u have.and also ill be turning 15 2 day after u turn 17

I plan on it. Going to look into buying an LS1, and swapping it in near the end of summer.

That's a nice IROC-Z, (to the thread starter) What muffler did you put on it? It looks like a Dynamax bullet. A lot of people use 2 of those to make a fake GMMG setup.

I got my vert when I was 16, my girlfriend got her IROC when she was 18, and my sister got her Formula when she was 16.

My '85 Z28

Well, now that I know I'm not alone, I'm 17, and bought my '85 Z about 6 months ago.

It's got a 305 tuned port, and a 700-R4. I'm thinking about a 350 convert, and it needs a system. Go before show!

She's a fixer upper, but I love her just the same.

Re: My hard earned 1st car 86 iroc

I'm pretty lucky... my parents said as long as I keep my grades up they will keep paying for my insurance.

I have to agree with Falcon, "Go before show"!

I'm not so lucky. I get straight A's, but I still have to pay for my own gas/insurance. Which I'll soon be insuring 2 vehicles (My Grand Am already & Trans Am hopefully pretty soon).

Re: My hard earned 1st car 86 iroc

My parents got me my car for my birthday, and Agree'd to split my insruance with me aslong as i have good grades and a clean driving record.

On that note, ive got lucky a few times. I had an incident at school which involved a little tire smoke. Got me in some cop trouble which i was let off, then i got banned from the school parking lot
Oh well, ms. Mackie (Hall monitor) decided im a favorite student and gave me my pass back (Just cant let the principal know) heh

Im the primary driver on my iroc, and its in my name. I pay $2800/yr insurance, which is pretty good compared to anyone else i know. Course, my bud matt always complained about payin $3100/yr for his jetta, then he wiped out a new malibu, so now he will be paying out the ***.

Oh the joy's of insurance

My record isn't very clean either.

I got a speeding ticket trying to get to work on time one morning, 67 in a 40. I'm still waiting for my hearing which is on the 11th to see if I'm going to lose my license for 90 days.

And now I blew the bottom half of the motor in my Grand Am racing a Civic after school Monday. I'm supposed to pick up the new 3.1L I found for $250 tommorrow and start swapping engines. Needless to say I beat him before I blew it.

BTW, I pay about $980/year for insurance. I'm primary on the Grand Am, and I've already talked to the insurance agent and it's only gonna be about $300-400 to add the Trans Am to our policy with my dad being primary on it. So for about $1300-1400 out of my pocket I'll have 2 cars insured.
