This one is not going to the junkyard

I live in Belgium (Europe) and I'm very proud of my 1988 V6-Camaro which I saved from being send to the junkyard. I'm currently restaurating the car.
Unfortenally and un-understandably these cars (and so are all your beautiful American cars) are a bit rare here, so I'm having difficulties finding the needed parts. I'm shure I'll find a lot of help here.

I'm gonna guess you ment restoring the car.. it looks interesting.. why the big z28 on the door if its a v6? Even if it was a v8.. why? hehe.. no offense.. Is that a corvette emblem I see the the sail panel? It looks to be in decent shape.. Was it wrecked before? I noticed the hood and the bumper cover are the wrong year for the car... It looks to be in pretty good shape though.. what are you plans for it? Any more pictures? It's cool to see camaros across the pond

good luck i have a hard enough time finding them here in america. your best bet would be ebaymotors.com yearone.com classicindustrys.com and the paddock.com i dont know if they ship overseas

I find the big Z28 a bit cheap myself, but it kinda looks nice with the white stripes so maybe I leave them on. Not shure though. And indeed it was wrecked an many parts are not original. Plans are to do a body-off restoration. I have the time to do so cause here taxes are very high for a 2.8 untill it's 25 years. Nevertheless I'm not going to wait another 5 years to drive this beauty.

no offense it looks like a nice car but id say your gonna have a hard time to restore that and its gonna be expensive, just at a glance i can tell you the hood is from 83 the front bumper cover and chin is from 84 and z28 wasn't an option in 88 let alone with a v6. as i said before its got potential but to restore to original is gonna be a PITA!

Taxes are high for something as small and gutless as a 2.8?!? If that's the case they really need to take into account power to weight ratio because there are tiny 4 cylinders out there that will destroy that in a race.. As stated body off isnt an option since there isn't a frame to the car. You can remove the front k member and all suspension parts but thats about it. What all are you looking for parts wise? It doesn't look that bad from the pics..

Here the taxes are just on the cubic inches. A 1.6L european car will beat me every time but has to pay maybe 1/5 of what I have to pay. For exemple, the car I drive for work is 1.9 diesel that has 150HP and 330 NM torque. That's the reason you'll almost never find a 5.0 or 5.7 L that is registred for daily use. I don't know the exact prices but just to get a license plate would cost about 5000 euro (+ 6000 USD) and taxes for one year will be about 3000 euro (+ 3500 USD). Gas cost almost 2USD for 1 liter.
And off course our european gouvernment is trying to protect the european market. Dodge is now trying to get a foot on european land and is playing it smart. They are introducing there cars here with a built in low ci VW-motor. For me off course it's not the same, I just want the real american stuff.

With body off I just meant as thoroughly as possible and if it fits it's ok. Not all parts has to be 88. Right now I'm working on the transmission. The blocking ring of the 3th gear is broken. Found someone who can get me the ring from England. I still will probably buy the overhaul kit from www.5speeds.com or www.drivetrain.com. Just by looking at it I will need the front passenger fender and door, a lot of wheaterstripes, an interieur and a lot is wrong with the steering and suspension. I don't know the exact word but the behavior on the road really sucks. And since I installed the original dual way air filter housing, the hood won't close no more. And off course there's a lot of rust under the car. The car has been standing still in a soggy place for about 2 years.
Until now I always worked on motorbikes, so for me this is a big project.

Neat car!! Great to see someone over there keeping the faith. It's funny that the Gov'ment thinks a 2.8 is a big engine though.

My registration for the IROC was $18.04, about 10 euro.
