Pre-rebuild Fall photoshoot!
Hey guys! I was taking some pictures this weekend with my car and my dad's mustang and i figured some of you might be interested in them. This is a continuation of Project Panther, and these are the last real pictures i think i'm going to have before she goes under the knife this winter.
My baby is a 1989 Iroc-Z28 Hardtop that rolled off the line with a LB9, WCT5, and a 3.08 posi out back. Along with full power options. As far as i can tell, the only thing she's missing is G92 for the better gears/disk rear. She's had a rough life as some of my previous threads show. Just this weekend i learned the second owner used her as a "race car"!!! Didn't take very good care of her for being a race car
Anyways, here are the pictures. Don't mind my dad's 82' GT in there. We can all be friends can't we?
Also, these are only the "best" ones. And im no photographer so be nice!!

edit: btw, in that first picture, the door does indeed fit. I just didn't shut it hard enough

Re: Pre-rebuild Fall photoshoot!
More pics:

the very last hurray for her this fall should come on the next 2 weeks. Before the work begins, i want to get a baseline on her. To do this i'm planning on hitting the local dragstrip. If i manage to get there, you can bet there will be some video footage!
edit: ah! i forgot. This winter's build should consist of the following, although it is just the beginning of her ressurection.
-Fresh black PPG paint (prep work done myself. No waves! yay!!)
-fresh striping, emblems, logos, and center caps (anyone have some center caps? or OEM foglights for that matter)
-Dyno Don headers
-Magnaflow cat
-Hooker 3" catback
-L98 taken 30 over, machined for stroking to a 383, and completely rebuild
-Crower Camshaft custom grind
-fresh roller lifters and 1.6 roller rockers
and I'm going to home-port the heads and intake for now, because I'll be broke by this point!!

I already have started digging through dads tools and setting the body work stuff aside in prep. We also have a few local TGO members who seem like they're gonna lend a hand for the greater good (particularly, someone who can spray the car). We also are talking with a local shop about renting their booth for a day or two. All and all it seems like a go, and it also seems that it might be a good bargain. After all, the more work you do yourself...

Re: Pre-rebuild Fall photoshoot!
Also, I forgot to mention that this car still has only roughly $1400 in it. After buying the car for ~$1100, with the problems it had, $1400 is not bad at ALL. Especially since that includes a hood, hatch, and tires.
ALSO! I have been told by my local Gamestop that once i turn 18, unless anything changes they will have a job open for me! So full speed ahead on the rebuild!!!!

Re: Pre-rebuild Fall photoshoot!
Thanks!!
And today, I found out that the positraction does indeed work! I have never launched any car before (nevermind a manual) so i decided to try it. Even with the 3.08s out back here was the result:

it actually looks like alot more than i expected, because the car launched REALLY well. It barely felt like it spun at all. No stalling either!!!
also, i think sometime in the next 2-3 weeks here, I am going to make one last thread to be updated from november till the car is finished. I have more than enough threads on this car, it is time to linearize this project and put everything in one place, and keep it there.

Re: Pre-rebuild Fall photoshoot!
if your just gonna build the 383 and not add heads/cam/intake to match i'd just wait it out
no sense in buying a cam for stock heads and intake, then upgrading it all later
car is looking good tho
cant wait to see the final product. You could reverse the paint scheme thats goin on now and i think it look all right

This engine is worn out anyways. I would be swapping the 350 in this winter regardless just so i feel like i have a strong safe powerplant up infront of me. Might as well do it right the first time!
And i think she'll run good with full exhaust, valvetrain and bottom end. Plus i'll get some home porting done to get a bit more power out of the top of the engine. Just because i'm not running 10s like a certain other 383 thirdgen in pittsburgh....

Plus then it'll just be that much more fun when the heads and intake go on. Can you say power shock? I'll be picking up 100 HP in a days work. Man will that be a fun night
