Think about selling my 3rd Gen, what's it worth/talk me out of it.
I'm contemplating selling my 3rd Gen. 1986 Sport Coupe, the body mileage is unknown but is rust free with the exception of some light surface rust on the drivers pillar, and there is a bubble on the paint down behind the drivers rear fender. Most of the rest is detailed below in the signature, the motor now has about 24k miles on it, and the trans/rear about 14k miles. The car needs a heater core, and a pair of KDW's for the rear. Other than that, its ready to go, started right up last weekend after sitting about 3 months.
I'm not sure I want to part with it, but I'm feeling this un-ending financial strain, and the need to upgrade the daily drivers in the family. (92 Escort w/ 210k miles and a 2000 Monte Carlo w/ 145k miles) I love the Camaro, love cruising, loving screwing with the rice, and would really like to get going into auto-cross again with this car. I guess I'm on the fence. What do you guys think the car is worth? I bought it 2 years ago for 3k, and since have done about 4k miles, converted to a vacuum advance carb and ignition, and gone with an open-header exhaust after playing around with a few cat-backs. I'm interested to hear what you guys think.

Sell the Ford. Trade in the Monte Carlo on some cheap rice (they run for decades). But whatever you do, do NOT sell that Camaro. As much work as you've done on it, you'd kick yourself for years to come.
Fix the body where it's needed, then show it/race it and earn some extra $$$.
My .02 cents.

100% agree. I sold all three of mine, and still hate myself for it, almost a year later.

You guys rule. I appreciate the encouragement. You guys are right too, it would definetly be something I'd regret, just like when I parted with my '87 L98 IROC. Trying to see things big picture, and there are a dozen different ways to look at everything. I guess it is worth the 60hr weeks (been in the office since 7am this morning, I used to think Saturday was for sleeping in!) to keep it around, thats for getting my head right.
Re: Think about selling my 3rd Gen, what's it worth/talk me out of it.
I also say keep it.
It may be getting expensive, but it's worth it.
Also sounds like a project/weekend car. If it has to sit so you can fix up the DD's it will be there when you have the money to fix/drive it.
If you store it just make sure you do it properly.
Also one last thought. Someone commented on you wanting to race. I have nothing against that, I bought mine to drag race myself.
However, I will not ever tell anyone that is a good way to win money. To many competitive cars, and the money you can spend to make a competitive car. Not a good way to go.
If you race it, don't do it for the money, do it cause you love it, and you want the rush. Without having to worry about getting arrestted.
Also one last thing, along with if the car has to sit it will be their, if you only have 50 dollars a month to spend on it, save up a couple months, and start slowly putting it together. You'll get it where you want it, sometimes it just takes time.

Re: Think about selling my 3rd Gen, what's it worth/talk me out of it.
I just bought a Camaro but want to sell it already.
Reason being I sold my 2 dream cars (97 Supra, and 06 WRX STi,) wasted the money traveling around the country and really have only a few good memories to think about that are fading fast.
If I still had my cars, I'd be much happier today with out a doubt. If you feel this way about your Camaro, I'd say keep it.
If you don't really consider it something that ads to the quality of your life and happiness as a whole, then sell it and do the responsible thing which would be replacing that escort before it dies.
Escorts are great cars, don't get me started, and I don't get me wrong - but 210k miles on any car is asking for trouble.
Either cut down on your other bills and contribute to the things you NEED in life such as reliable transportation, or consider selling the car - and buying another car you'd like to have when the time and money are right.
