Re: Painted the IROC yesterday

alrite well i got that trim painted and the hatch is on the car. The gaps around the hatch look a little outa wack but im not sure if they are because its been a while since ive seen one done right, heres a couple pictures of what they look like, and some pictures of yalls would be great. I also have new weatherstriping from SoffSeal does the rubber just need to sit or get broke in or what?????

thanks in advance for the replies

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday

The stock rear seals are pretty easy to come by while still being in good shape. Even thought they are used they may be an option even if it's simply to check the fitment.

My gaps range from 1/4" to 5/16". One spot near drivers taillight is almost 3/8". I've got new factory weatherstrip. I don't think it made a difference in my gaps.

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday

well it doesnt look like that gaps are going to get any better. the only thing i dont like is that it look like the glass is setting more to the passenger side, but the gaps on the decklid its self is spot on. Do these back glasses sometimes bow or change shape any over time, or was this a problem from the factory???

Mines the exact same way, decklid is perfect, but the gaps are different. one side sits perfect the other not so much. Im guessing a factory problem.

So are you restoring the car to be all orig. or do you have plans for mods and such?

sometimes the lid moves on the glass overtime and will need to be taken apart and readjusted. also ive heard that the body panels are sometimes off from the factory basicly making it impossible to make it 100% perfect

ahhh good to know mines not the only one like that. The car is nearly all original except for headers, lower control arms, and a panhard bar. I plan on getting some big brakes, lowering it and putting some nice 17" wheels on it. i could go on forever with what i WANT to do but as of right now its what im ABLE to do.

Looking great man, wish I could have taken my firebird apart like that when it was painted. That attention to detail is going to pay off in the end but I'm sure you already know that. White Irocs are one of the best, can't wait to see it together.

The rims are 18x8 & 18x10, the front are at factory settings & backspacing on the rears is 6.1/4 that way they are still tucked under the fender...you will have to massage the inner fenders where the seat belts are located, I just removed mine because no one sits in the back

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday

well guys i finally got the car to start after having to buy a new computer for it, after sitting for about 2 years the cars fired after the second crank after we played with the timing a little bit. Ordered some lowering spring and an adjustable panhard bar from Spohn. As soon as i get it all back together i'll get some pictures of the progress and maybe a video!!!!!

You got to love all white camaro's they just look so clean, and with raised white letter tires, ah! Not wanting to hijack your thread, but i think the white camaro's look pretty good without black headlight pockets. Here is mine. I repainted mine a couple years ago, i wish i had the time and money i have now to pull mine completely apart and repaint like you did.

Yup, white is my favorite 3rd gen color too, however, I prefer the headlights black. Your color-matched wheels look really nice!

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday

Thanks to how good your stock white came out, I decided to stick with the stock color instead of changing to a different white. Im so glad I did, it came out great. I just fininished mine up this weekend.

Question for you, my trim around the glass on the hatch is pretty rusty, how did you fix yours? remove it, or just sand it down while on the car and paint it back?

If you removed it, how do you do that? is it glued on?

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday

You can sand it down on the car. Then primer and paint with a good quality paint. I recommend SEM in a rattle can. It's not cheap stuff. But will last and is the best quality you can get out of a can.

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday

well ladies and gentlemen its been a while but here we go!!!

I the SRE lowering springs, bump steer kit, inner tie rods, adjustable panhard bar, and the adjustable strut towers from Spohn. The wheels are Boss 338's 18x8 front and 18x9.5 rear. im gona have to get a little work done to the offset to get them up underneath the fenderwell in the back, and after that i will clamp the rear springs or buy sportline rears. The hoods on the car now and i'll be painting the bumpers, mirrors, spoiler, and ground effects very soon, prepping them now. OH! and the front glass is in it.

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday

i think there Riken's or something, i bought the wheels and tires mounted and balanced. There Riken Raptor ZR's, the tread design is more or less a typical directional tire design, the Treadwear is 300 which sucks because i think most street tire autocross events you have to run a 320TW or higher.

BFGoodrich also makes a drag radial that looks nearly identical to them
