Must feel good to get it repainted. Did you have to do any body work? I've always liked the white camaros.

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday
oo yea alot of body work was done on this car to get it as straight as i wanted it, to put it in perspective the only parts that dont have any filler on them are the hatch and the fenders, the whole top, driver door, and hood have a whole coat of filler on them so yes there was a "little" body work. I think it all paid off though, its getting wet sanded tommorow so more pic are to come.

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday
yes i did paint the doors hatch and the fender, the only things i didnt paint were the ground effects mirrors and front and back bumpers because i dont want them laying around getting chipped up so ill paint them when im for sure ill put them on. O and i put one got of Adhesion Promoter, One good coat of sealer, then i sprayed 5 coats of base but after the first coat i hit it with 1000, and then 4 coats of clear. The paint i used was DuPont ChromaSystem adhesion promoter and sealer, and then Nason base and clear.

that looks good, what kind of paint did you use? I've got a white '85 that was repainted with horrible paint before I got it so I'm planning to strip and repaint it one of these days
Re: Painted the IROC yesterday

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday
i used dupont URO primer on most of the car but we ran out to i used Nason SelectPrime 2k on the rest, for the base i used also used nason i think its called SelectBase?? not sure though ill have to look, for the clear i used Nason SelectClear2K, i also sealed it and put some adhesion promoter on it and it was Dupont's ChromaSystem. My girlfriend comes out there and watches me work on it but thats about it, she doesnt usually talk to much so its all good

The car looks really straight. I assume you blocked it out by hand? You layed the clear on nicely. Time for color sanding, buffing and polishing. That should only take a couple hours!!! HaHa. Looks great and good luck.Keep the pics coming.

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday
well today i got most of the color sanding done and yes i blocked the car out by hand, i couldnt be happier with the way it came out, the only thing i wish i would of had is more activator, i only had enough for 3 full coats of clear, so i got to be carefull, more pics on the way.

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday
3 full coats of clear will be plenty safe. Tape the edges off while you sand and buff to be safe. buff the panels out then pull the tape and finish buffing. No burnt edges!!! That car is going to be nice. You either have some painting experience or you did a great job of researching. I especially like how you hung the doors over the rack. Brilliant!

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday
yes that is the factory white color, if you need the codes i have them. Thanks for the hints on buffing i have a good buffer and all the compound to do it and a little expierience but i mite have to try putin some tape on it for a little assurance, as for graphics or anything that might go on the car im debating on whether or not i want to put the factory red IROC-Z back on the door or put a black hockey stripe on it like Sinister's car. the car has a red interior soo gimme some input on what yall think. By the way as for expierience im 19.

i probably am going to put the IROC-Z back on the door. I'll make that decision and whether or not to black out the headlight buckets whenever its all back together.

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday
Looking real good!! Nice job.
There was one locally that is white with the black/yellow stripe for sale. It had a few problems, but could be fixed.
I also saw another one locally that is in real good condition.
If it wasnt a Iroc, I would vote to leave it solid with black buckets.
But I have always liked the stock look of a white Iroc. The lower stripes and Iroc decal just sets it off.

Just an FYI, a baby kitten gets ran over by a semi truck every time someone repaints Camaro and doesn't paint the headlight buckets black. It's true!

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday
depending on the wheels, i think red iroc z decals would look great. i think the whole hockey stripe has been done enough. maybe do something that hasn't been done. that's i went with my stripe set up. something new.

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday
As for the headlight buckets, stripes, and IROC-Z decals i think im going to just get the car all together and just go from there, i can always pull the front bumper off and paint the bucket, or just stick the decals on the doors, but we will just have to see which way I want it.

Yeap, At the end of the day, Its always your car.
Everyone has different ideas and taste, so do what YOU like.
Get it all together, then if it seems like it is missing something, you can add it.

Re: Painted the IROC yesterday
and ill keep going until I think it looks the way i want it. But if the Iroc-Z goes on the door i think i would feel like it was missing something, which would be the black headlight buckets. Whats the DuPont paint code for the black used in the buckets and underneath the louvers???
