Haha, that's funny. It won't be in the driveway much longer. My 2 car garage fits 3 actually. 2 side by side and 2 deep on the left side. That's taken up by my Truck, '84, and my wife's car. BUT!! With the wheel dollies I just got I'll be able to push the '91 to the 2nd (deep) spot and turn it so that I can park it in my unfinished room behind the garage. I've gotta move my workout equipment and my storage shelves for my camaro parts, but then I'll have room to have 4 cars down stairs. Will be done by this w/e.

 

Wow man!! That's an awesome deal. I know the price was right on mine, but it still needs a lot of work. It will be worth it in the end and I'll have saved another nice 3rd gen from dying. My biggest problem right now is that I still have stuff I want to do to my '84 (paint hood) etc... and don't have a ton of extra cash right now. So, this one will probably sit for a bit unless I find a drivetrain that it just too good a deal to pass up.

There are more good deals out there. You just got to look everywhere, ebay, Craiglist, backyards, junk yards, classified, etc. A lot of people start projects they can't finish or people die and leave cars to relatives that don't want them, etc. Sometimes when you drive past a car that just sits on a daily basis in a yard somewhere that is a good canidate to be bought. You just got to ask.

I own a 92 RS 3.1L. Pretty much everything works on it, body good tranny good, it's all there. But, I need a donr car, as I have no title for it so registering it is imposible in Massachusetts. I'm looking for what you got for around that same price, ( with a clean title ), so any parts I might need off of My 92, I already have.

Like it's been said already, you got the deal of the century. My congradulations on such a good find. it looks good it's already primed, body work is pretty much all done, so you've pretty much got an easy fix for short money.

One idea that might help you for the paint is to check out www.carcraft.com, and check out some of the threads there on painting your car. You get great advice lots of step by step pictures, lots of ideas for paint mixing, preparation, tips, which paits to use, and a ton of knowledge that you don't now have in that area all for free.

That is the first time I have seen DARK GREY factory seats in the thirdgen style. To my knowledge they only came in Light Gray. Very Interesting find. With the right motor that could be a real nice car, especially for the money.

I'm not sure if anyone answered your question about opening the hatch without power to the car, or keys, but you can crawl into the back of the car and take the bolts out holdin the hatch motor assembly on the car, and it will pop open with the hatch motor still connected. Of course, if the plastic interior panel is still in the car you may have to get creative in removing it, or just bust it up and buy a new plastic piece when you're done.

Yeah, I found out that if you take out the little light in the rear panel that you can stick a long flathead through the hole and pop the latch. It was pretty easy.

Thanks man. I don't know if I'll go with a crate motor or find a wrecked 350tpi car to transplant the drivetrain from. I'm thinking of going the transplant route so I'll have everything I need...i.e. everthing that bolts to the motor that I'd be missing from a crate motor.

 

Well, I don't know what your plans are specifically as far as performance mods go but since you don't have anything in there yet you could put a set of long tube headers before you get the engine installed to make it easier for you.

I'm assuming this car doesn't have an exhaust yet? Buy a hi-flow catalytic converter and get a 80 series Flowmaster dual exhaust and it'll sound really good and you'll gain power with all of that together.

 

This car will still have to have emissions here for about 5 more years, so it will have to be fairly stock for now engine wise. It came with a brand new 3" flowmaster muffler and pipes, so I'll save a little money there.

 

Wow, nice find! I just paid $1,700 for a rusted/rotted '91 Z with a bad tranny, tons of engine problems and never ending electrical problems, and a garbage interior... This thread makes me want to shoot myself lol.

 

Sorry to hear that man. You do have quite a project on your hands, but the good thing is that your car is complete and looks way better than mine. At least You won't have to chase down an entire drivetrain that isn't missing any emissions stuff. You know you can get a wiring harness for around a $100. That should solve some of your issues. Fix/Stop the rust asap so it doesn't get worse, then have your tranny inspected to see if it needs rebuilt or a $100 part to make it good as new. Your engine problems could be a simple sensor to fix, who know. Just tackle one problem at a time. Oh and as far as your interior, that stuff is super easy to do yourself and you can always find other people parting out nice cars to get fairly cheap parts. Good luck man

Well that's exactly what I need, but I haven't saved any $$ to put towards it yet. I wish I did because I'd be very interested in your drivetrain + the fact that you're not too far away. I figured I could find a wrecked donar car for less than a grand, maybe $500-$700 depending on how bad it is and then part out whatever was good and have about $200-$400 actually into the drivetrain to start. How much are you looking for your combo?
