Painting wheels????

Hey guys was wanting some input on my idea. I am thinking about painting the spokes on my wheels a dark grey color. Im just looking for something a little different since these wheels have been on my car for about 10 years now. I plan on using dupli color dark grey spray bomb wheel coating. If any of you photshop gurus are out there and want to give an example please do. Thanks all.

Re: Painting wheels????

I should have also mentioned these are raw aluminum wheels so it would not be that hard to strip it off. I see I have one vote for no. Thanks I have been thinking about this for sometime so all input is appreciated thanks 58mark. Oh and please no, why dont go buy new wheels, I know i could do that, but money is tight so thats why I am looking at the paint idea.

Re: Painting wheels????

thanks for not being offended...

your car looks greenish gray, so why paint the wheels grey? If you are just tired of the chrome, go with black.

i think your wheels are nice, but here's my attempt at giving you an idea of what it would look like

Re: Painting wheels????

I like the first pic you did, but the centers and spokes all grey with a polished lip is what im going for. If you could do one like that i would appreciate it.

Re: Painting wheels????

I don't know if you know this or not so no offense intended just trying to help, painting polished anything is super tough, even for the pro's so just make sure you scuff the area you paint very well and thoroughly, and it should adhere. Make sure it's clean too, might consider using a adhesion promotor.

Good Luck, DacMan

Re: Painting wheels????

Yea, I worked in a body shop for a few years when I was in high school and after I graduated. So that is an issue I am well aware of but thanks for the input.

Re: Painting wheels????

Yea the last pic is what im looking at doing. Thanks Mark, the good thing about it is if I dont like it I can get some airplane stripper and take it off and polish it back out. I think I am going to do one wheel just to see how it looks on the car.

Re: Painting wheels????

Iw as going to ask the very same question. I have an 82 z28 with the factory wheels. I touched them up with silver wheel paint spray bomb a while back and it came out pretty good. I was considering trying the same thing with gloss black paint. Please post your pix if/when you do it!
