3rd times the charm

Well in the last month or so ive bought a 87 camaro a 92 and now a 91. I bought the 87 to restore, scrapped the project due to rust issues, i picked up a 92 heritage car with no motor or trans but a perfect restored interior, swapped in the 87s motor trans and harness. Well weeks now and i can not get it running, it wont crank, no fuel, nothing. Kinda upset with it and all the work that has gone into it off to craigslist i go. This morning i found a 91 z with a newly rebuilt 350 tpi with no miles on it, 102k on the body t tops blah blah, but its not running, it will crank but no start. I go check it out, its got spark and fuel but will not fire, just backfire. So i get it for $1200 bucks. Tonight i go out to work on it for a bit, check firing order, its good, then pop the dist cap, hmm doesnt look like its firing in the right order. Sure enough get the motor to tdc and its on plug 3 not 1. Get it on 1 put it back together. Turn the key and.....and......VROOOOOMMMM first try. Im so happy to finally have a running 3rd gen, and its a z28 with the wing and blisters. The bad, the driver seat is ripped and it needs a headliner, which doesnt matter since i have a whole perfect interior, but this one is red and the red looks so good on the black car. Anyway spent the evening putting the rest of the pullys and stuff on. Hopefully if all goes well may be on the road next weekend.

Sweet deal on the 91. Gotta love it when its something as simple as that, and it didnt cost any money to simply adjust the timing!

What are you doing with the other one?

well the 87 is nothing but scrap metal really, no interior drivetrain harnesses. The 92 i want to get running then sell or maybe just keep and slowly finish restoring it.

Not to get off topic here, but on the 92, have you checked to see if there is differences in the c100 connector between it and the 87 harness? That could be why its not running.

Re: 3rd times the charm

That could very well be the issue. That car was a 305 tbi car to start life. I have the whole interior harness for the 87 i will eventually put it.
Worked more on the 91 today, got the driveshaft in and the y pipe, which was a pain to install alone, put in radiator, fans, alternator. I cant get 1 pwr steering line hooked up. It wont reach no way no how so im gonna have to cut the hard line and flex it in but no big deal. Once i got all the fluids in i started it to try to move it and found no reverse.....but it was actually still really low of fluid. I filled it the rest of the way and reverse works. Still gotta plug the emission holes on the headers and reroute the plug wires so they dont get burned. Washed the car and waxed one side before it got dark, it was nasty!

Re: 3rd times the charm

Looking good. I guess the third time Is a charm. Good Luck with it.

From your posts it sounds like you don't have any plans for furthering the 87 any more. Do you have a title for it?

Here's My delima. I own a 92 RS 3.1L V6 parts car. Everything works, it runs, tranny is good, body in decent shape, the car's complete, in other words. Just one problem. I have no title for it, and in Massachusetts, that means there's No way I can Ever get it registered for road use.

You say the 87 has rust issues? I'm willing to work on that. How's the floors? Even if it's a Fred Flintstone version with holes in the floors, I can still work with that. From the 92, I have any and all parts I need to swap onto a body. I just need a donor car with a clean title for short money, and I'm off and running, so I'm interesteds in making a deal if possible.
