My $900 88 rs project thread
So i bought my camaro back in late october to early novemeber. A guy that i worked with in a haunted hayride here in pa was selling it and i had just sold a 1970 buick electra 225. so i jumped at the deal.without realizing it, i learned that i was following in my 3 brothers footsteps. They all had camaro's as their first cars. so lets see what have i found on the maro that wasnt bad but needed work. THIS IS NOT ORGANIZED
-right off the back i noticed it has 4 different brand tires, not a problem just really funny.
-1 of the lug stud is broken.
-no compartment cover
-dead radio, with backstreet boys cd stuck in it(lol). o the 90's were fun
-shifter **** just pops off.
-amp wire coming from battery, across fender, through pass door, under dash (can see it hanging), and finally under center console to driver seat.
-nasty dent on hood which someone tried to pop out with screw driver, no even worse cuz now its about 4 dents in the same spot. also riveted cowl is braking off.
-rear driver quarter has dent and scratch, guess someone back up too close to something with an edge.
-front pass fender dent over wheel, hit a boat trailer.
-passenger door interior handle broken, guy had a bad mechanic cuz the plastic trim is all cracked up. guess they didnt know about the fake screws lol
-no blinkers.
-no front chin spoiler
-grill dry rotted
-pass front turn signal lens GONE
-fenders unaligned.
-coil just sitting on top of engine lol.
i think thats about it with the problems i found
all the problems but i still in love with this car
the link is to pictures and a video of her.

couple things i did so far were
-found center console lid
-changed seat covers
-got a 87 hood with no dents
-changed radio
-changed shifter ****
-fix turn signals
-ordered new turn signal lens

Re: My $900 88 rs project thread
Well - all I can say is good luck - hope you have time and money available, and more than anything else - patience!
I too bought mine for $900, 5 years ago - it was in better shape than yours - I was told all kinds of problems, I towed a car trailer from NC to DC to get it - turns out all it needed was a battery. My interior was good, exterior good except paint, motor was fine.
5 years later, there's not a part I haven't touched on the car, and I'm now at $15k spent and counting (I still have things to do), but have loved every minute of it, and I love nothing better than driver her around.

Re: My $900 88 rs project thread
That has an 88 sport coupe spoiler and rear bumper emblem. Early in the 88 model year the "rs" was a sport coupe, until they changed the badging to read "rs" and dropped that spoiler in favor of the three piece lip design found on IROCs. Might be a sport coupe cause switching to that spoiler from an rs lip spoiler would have left mouting holes in your rear fenders for the side spoiler pieces. Exactly the same as an rs, just different badging and spoiler. Also on a sport coupe, the rocker emblems would read camaro, instead of rs. I could be wrong, but the rear of that car looks identical to my car and I'd guess, not many people try to clone 88 coupes. Personally, I think thats the best looking spoiler but not everyone cares for it. Good luck with the car and keep the spoiler!

Re: My $900 88 rs project thread
good luck... looks like most of the things u listed that need attention are fairly easy to handle... in 88 it was a 'sport coupe' they werent badged as 'RS' until 89
