New here, help me with my question?
I'm about to get my license and I really like camaros. I was wondering if all this work was worth this car.
91 or a 92 camaro iroc z t top. Needs a new radiator tube, 2 rear tires, 1 door hinge, 4 tires, and a new windshield. It also has a lot of dents, but Im fine driving it with them.
I just want to get it back running, besides those things, it runs fine. The guy will sell it to me for 800$, would it be worth getting and fixing (drivable, dont care about dents)? I'm talking parts & to pay a mechanic to install everything. Not original engine, 87k miles on the new one

also im lost you say 2 tires, then 4 tires? im confused also if its just a radiator hose, tires, windsheild, and a hinge id go for it WITH the exception there was little to no rust, if its rusty dont take it and keep looking, i got my car for $250 and only put $110 in it to get her running again
Re: New here, help me with my question?
Trust me, it will need a LOT more than what you have listed.
Think brakes, and every sensor on the engine, and some time soon a battery/alternator, starter, fuel pump, etc. Probably end up needing some suspension work too.
Trust me, it's gonna a lot of work. 20 year old car that's been abused, mine wasn't abused and needed literally everything and everything over the first 3-4 years of ownership, although I got lucky with the suspension and have only had to replace the center drag link in the 12 years I've had it.
Also FYI, IROCs were only made from '85-'90. Either it's not an IROC, or it's a '91-'92 Z28.

Rad hose $30 max (you install)
Windshield $200 max installed
Rear wheels - $100 max - ebay, craigslist, etc.
4 used tires - $100 max - installed & balanced any used tire shop
4 new tires - $400 max - tirerack.com, have shipped, then pay tire shop $50 to install
Just about any running V8 car is worth $800, at least to those of us that have tools and time to fix. If you don't have tools, knowledge, or time - then I'd pass. BUT - if your budget is $1000 rather than $2000, then this car would be as good as any other $1000 car - in other words any $1000 car is going to have it's share of problems that need attended to before the car is really "road-worthy". At least with this car, you have TGO for knowledge, tools are not that expensive, and 3rd gens are easy to work on.

Re: New here, help me with my question?
I purchased the car bone stock. Literally nothing done to it in about 20 years apart from the mimimum to keep it running.
No rust, no body panel replacement or welding needed.
Purchased for $4500, then had to replace:
Alternator,
Battery,
Spark plugs,
Spark wires,
Distributor,
Serpentine belt,
Oil, Oilfilter,
Fan,
Thermostat,
Lambda,
Complete exhaust: from headers, through catalytic converter, intermediate pipe, all mounting points, muffler, ends,
Brakes: calipers, discs, pads, drums, pads, workings, parkingbrake assembly, wheelbearings,
Suspension: dampers, springs, bushings, endlinks, steering rack.
Steering wheel assembly,
Safety belts,
Wiring for chassis lighting front and rear.
I consider my car to have been in good shape when I bought it.
Now it´s also safe to drive. Not a beauty yet as I have a bare interior, worn down seats, bad paint etc. but I have a good and reliable car with a good transmission and engine that both did not need any work which makes me consider it was a good buy.
I have now spent a good $9000 (including purchase that is) in the car so far and intend to invest another $9000 before the car is repainted, has a little extra power and a good interior.
As Camaronewbie said, $800 will get you a $800 car. There are some good deals to be had, but in order to be able to drive one of these for nearly no money you need the tools and some knowledge of cars.
I am absolutely certain you can drive a 3rd gen camaro or firebird for less then what I spend, but always consider that one of the most important features in a car is that everything vital works to keep you and others from getting damaged or causing damage.
Also consider that any deal to good to be true generally is not true. If you´re not certain, bring someone along who will be, especially since you have no pictures to post. Even with pictures however, bring along someone knowledgeable when you go and have a look at the car with the intention of buying.
