bringing 91 from the dead
I recently purchased this 91 Camaro. It has no engine and transmission is missing parts. I plan to start fixing her up and have her ready to make it to thirdgen meet in Georgetown May 21st.

Re: bringing 91 from the dead
Looks just like my RS! I bought mine for $1000 not running but with a complete drive train. A $1 piece of fuel line in the gas tank was the trouble source. Mine is in similar condition body wise with faded/peeling paint. We have been restoring her since November and hope to have her ready for her first car cruise in mid-May. Good luck with yours!

Re: bringing 91 from the dead
Thanks for the compliments guys. I have pulled the engine from my hard top to drop in this one. I was hoping to have it running tonight but the auto part store gave me a flexplate for a automatic and I need a flywheel for a manual. They had to order it so its on hold. I will post pics soon of the empty engine bay.
CrusinQueen do you have a thread of your build or some pics? That's awesome a dollar fix.

I have lots of pictures...just haven't started a thread yet. I plan on doing so soon when I've made more progress with the car. She's almost ready for paint...about 8 more hours of sanding to go.

Re: bringing 91 from the dead
So the correct flywheel came in today and I picked it up. Now looking at the clutch kit I noticed there are no bolts to bolt it to the flywheel. This is becoming ridiculous. I have never messed with a manual transmission before and this one didn't have the parts on it but I would figure bolts would come with a clutch kit. Hopefully they will have proper bolts for this.

Re: bringing 91 from the dead
no they don't normally come with bolts, i think the idea is to re-use the originals, which i am assuming you don't have, if you cant find them give hawks a call they prolly got them lying around somewheres

Yes I believe its pretty solid. A few small whiskey dings. I have a set of rims ready for her and am looking at paint. Can't afford it at the moment but I believe I'm going with this color.

Thought I'd be driving her today but I wasnt getting fuel to the injectors. Then i came across this. So I am going to drop the rear end out of both cars and swap the fuel pumps. I hope the wiring is unmolested.

Thanks chevydrvr.
Well I dropped the tank and all the wires had been cut. But it looks like the stock fuel pump and it comes on with a hot wire to it so I will fix the wiring and put this all together again.

Well I've got everything back together and just finishing up the wiring. Hopefully I can test drive her soon.
Here is my number one helper. His name is Riddick but he stays around the car and loves rolling in transmission fluid so I think ill change his name to Clutch. What do you think?

Re: bringing 91 from the dead
Well I have her running. Not great but I work on her every time I have a chance. Sometimes I have to poor fuel into the throttle body before it will spray fuel itself, also I can't go into gear unless the car is off. Hope I figure these out soon. It will be my daily driver.

Re: bringing 91 from the dead
Eh, get it on the road first, then ttops. I bet he could prime them and paint them body color and they'd look pretty sharp (I'm assuming they are lexan, judging by the pictures). Not sure, I've heard of people trying this but I've never seen any pictures. Who knows.
Keep up the good work!

Yes they are lexan. The ones I have to replace these have already been painted white. So they will be either black or the body color

Well today I took her out to get inspection and she passed drove fine. Only problem I have is I can't into reverse without killing the motor. New rear end will be soon to come and I will keep working on the transmission.

She has been tagged and inspected. After driving for about 5 miles I now have reverse. Crazy but true.

She is coming along very nicely! I'm sure that "Clutch" has been a great help. What kind of pup is he? He is absolutely gorgeous.

Re: bringing 91 from the dead
Well the motor is a 305 tbi L03 for now. Nothing special. The interior is ripped out. I pulled the carpet to check for rust and found very little surface rust so I cleaned that and primered it. This weekend I will rhino line the floor and put dynomax or equivalent to it. Also I will swap the rear end for a fourth Gen so I wont need spacers on the rear. Thanks for the compliments. Makes this all worth while.

Re: bringing 91 from the dead
I wish I had luck like you. Everytime I drive it I think "Maybe if I floor it, that will fix my EGR problems" or "Maybe when I start it, the MAF and similar connections will magically fix". But once again that is some stupid luck you got!

If it makes it better for you I have to prime the engine before I go anywhere ha ha. I can't figure that out.

Re: bringing 91 from the dead
Well I rhino lined the interior today. I have two coats at this point and have plenty left so I believe tomorrow I will put on two more coats but undecided.

Sorry about the picture quality. My phone takes amazing pictures if the lighting is good but its getting dark out so there not the best.

Cool build, and glad to see someone else with the same idea on the interior surface. Just watch for bubbling under it. I missed cleaning a section correctly and it bubbled really bad when I applied the stuff. Nothing like scraping bed liner...

Well today I put down the sound deadening stuff. I should have bought more but its OK another time atleast it is rhino lined.

I will clean up the carpet and install it tomorrow. Also as soon as I can get my brother's truck I will go get a 4th Gen posi rear. TY7592 found for me. Thanks for the compliments guys and gals. She is no where even close to being done.

Always jealous of these build threads where the car is already half transformed after a month :P Took me FOREVER to get my floor ready for the rhino lining, and you did it in no time.
Again, great job. Love to see them rescued from the dead.

Thanks. Yea I've done this flooring to my other camaro so I knew what to expect and where to get the stuff. Also having 5 Fridays this month helped a lot, that means a extra check ha ha.

I also just realized your in TX, so you probably didn't have much in the form of rust to deal with? Cars up here always have some form of rust/rot to deal with.

Re: bringing 91 from the dead
It had a little but it sat for over six years with the rear on the ground. But its taken care of now. My first camaro was from Illinois and as soon as I started pulling it apart it was rust heaven under the carpet and panels. Holes larger then my fist. So I took what I needed and gave the body to a Guy who made it a drag car.

Re: bringing 91 from the dead
Both my Firebirds were northern cars, and they were just too rusty to get back on the road. My Camaro is from the Indiana/Kentucky border and it's not rotted through, but plenty of surface rust and pitting to deal with. Best I've ever seen on a Camaro, which is sad, lol.
Back to your thread though... good luck with the fast progress. Can't wait to see it done!
