Re: 58mark's restoration thread
RIP to my custom made, polished RS wheel cap centers. Somotime on Monday I lost a cap somewhere, so my nice set of four became an incomplete set of three. I'm kind of upset about it, but don't feel like paying to have a new set made.

I already had a NOS set of caps ready to go, but they were grey. I painted them, and added the factory emblems that I had laid back for a rainy day.

I avoided using these because I thought it was too much black, but I guess they look pretty good

Re: 58mark's restoration thread
they fit with the rest of the wheel. now if you put a mirror polish on the non black parts of the rim, they would POP.

Re: 58mark's restoration thread
these actually are a mirror finish, but not a great camera pic shot.

Right now the plan is to polish and repaint a whole new set of wheels I have in my back yard. They are a better set, with less road rash

I'll get them ready, and when I need a new set of tires, put them into action

Re: 58mark's restoration thread
Hey Mark you could try a couple of dabs of rtv on opposite sides
of the caps to help hold them in place. When i did that some years
ago on a Z i never lost a cap.

Re: 58mark's restoration thread
I'll put this here, because it's part of my car's restoration.

over the last month I have replaced the front suspension on my car. I was getting a death wobble when going over bumps, so I knew it was time.

After confirming that the frame was NOT cracked, I ordered a moog suspension from amazon. I got ball joints, a center link, tie rod ends, and an idler arm.

I got Monroe struts from Rock auto for a great price, but when I went to go install those, I realized my strut mounts were long gone too, so I paid more than I should have to get some that day and put them on. I was at a friend's house changing them out (the third trip there to get all of this done) and frankly I just wanted it done, so I bit the bullet and bought them

After installing all of that and getting it aligned, I'm am pleased to report that the car now drives as good or better than new! Totally thrilled to get all of that behind me, and hopefully It will last years and years so I don't have to do it again any time in the near future...

My car is feeling like a factory fresh car, I'm starting to really get it to the point that it doesn't feel anywhere close to a 23 year old car.

Re: 58mark's restoration thread
that horrible death wobble? I was told it was a worn centerlink, but when you replacing something that is that shot, it doesn't make sense to leave other, worn out components in place

on my car, everything was DEAD. the tie rods and ball joints has so much play in them there was no resistance, and the struts, had no charge. It was like the entire front end was bouncing up and down on the springs

Re: 58mark's restoration thread
yeah, it hurt to put that much money into it... I just had to keep telling myself that I'm going to have this car for years and years, and drive it every day, and it's still cheaper than paying for a new car.

I love that the car is looking, running, and driving like a new car. Trying to figure out what my next step is. I have 4 extra wheels at my house that have less road rash than my first set. I'm thinking of redoing an entire set of them, but I know I could do a better job this time than the first time. When I get those done, I'll also buy 4 new tires to have a brand new, matched set (I think I have three different kinds of tires on my car)

Re: 58mark's restoration thread
cleaned the car up for the third gen roundup (I got a couple votes for top 5, but didn't win) It's ok, I was flattered that a couple people thought it was worthy, and no, I didn't vote for myself, there were some amazing cars there

I figured it was time for some before and after pics.

Re: 58mark's restoration thread
well when I need to get another set of tires (which will hopefully be a few years) I'm considering upgrading to a 4th gen rear end, and getting these 17" wheels for my car

Re: 58mark's restoration thread
well if you have the originals you can send them to me and I'll run them through the program.

3 originals, dark, medium, and bright, all taken with a camera on a tripod. really important that it doesn't move. I used a remote shutter release

Re: 58mark's restoration thread
Little change today. I decide to take advantage of a great deal I got one some IROC wheels and change the look a little bit

I also bought a IROC hood this week, but I bet it's going to be a while before I paint it and put it on.

It's holding up pretty good for a 3 year old paint job, but I could see in a couple of years doing it again. It's starting to show some scratches here and there in spots
