Re: My 1986 Z-28 build thread *PIC HEAVY*
Thanks for that.
I had been running the OEM Vortecs and Air Gap intake for years with the MS 90131 and had no problems. When I moved on to the RHS Vortecs (Pro Torker), I started using a ton of oil. 6 and 8 plugs are oil fouled (the engine is fresh) so it looks like the gasket gave up or doesn't quite fit the new heads or the slightly decked block (.015").
I like the looks of the 1255. There's only one report I've read where even though the gasket appears to have sealed the port completely, oil getting past it was still a problem.
Having said that, I'm encouraged by your choice of the 1255. From the looks of things, you and your shop appear very thorough. Your build is excellent.
I ordered a 1255 last week but am still investigating what peoples experiences are. I'll order new bolts too. Still debating whether to choose the Edelbrock spec (8516) or the ARP 134-2103.
Thanks again.
Keep up the good work.

Get some red brush on Hi-tack, glue the head, and both side of the gasket. Mine held 14" of crankcase vacuum without a single issue. I also do a bead of right stuff around the coolant passages on both sides of the gasket. Also, my block has been decked about 0.022" and the heads around 0.007". Felpro MLS 0.040" head gasket.

Looks like more shopping for the brush on variety of sealer.
Just a thought. I don't suppose you spent too much time at idle (on the dyno) where your manifold vacuum is highest. This would have been largely offset by the vacuum pump although having said that, I suppose at WOT, when manifold is at or near zero, there's quite a pull from the pump (14").
I'm not sure when my gasket packed it in as it's been using oil from the onset. At cruise, when coasting down a hill, my manifold vacuum is above 20".
I hope the 1255 and High Tack are up to the task.
Thanks again.

Ive had enough bleeding finger tips scraping these gaskets off with a razor blade to know they arnt going anywhere. Provided your angle's are correct.

What do you use for a torque spec? I used the same parts on my engine but ignored the OEM 10 ft/lbs spec. I torqued mine to 23 ft/lbs with liquid teflon on the threads as per a tech guy @ ARP.
Build is looking great BTW, can't wait to see this thing finished!

nicely done! are you going to be making an aluminum dash panel? Or running the bars up front through the stock dash?

Stock dash, Thats why we tucked the a pillar bars so tight so the amount I had to trim the dash pad was minimal.

Hello??? this thread seems kinda dead.
Spent a few hour's last night getting the bellhousing aligned, Also ended up making a custom alignment tool for the clutch disc. but at the end of the night I have the engine ready for the transmission. The Flywheel is a lightweight RAM billet steel, the clutch is a RAM powergrip HD, and the scattershield is a lakewood.

Pulling that scattershield looks like it would be a PITA to pull when the engine is in place. WOW.

Wow talk about some serious work being done to a car. Its pretty rare you see someone doing everything right. Most people bolt in a some crazy HP motor into a car, be damned stock rear, suspension, transmission, brakes or anything else. Your car should be a shrine to all 3rd gens when its done! Just watch out for deer! I just tagged one with my truck and seems like everyone i know is hitting them left and right!!!

Made the car a roller again last night, so I can bring it home tonight. Nolan is gone for a week, so im bringing it home to keep going hard on it until he gets back to finish the fab work
New front steering loosely bolted in to make rolling it around easier.
Outside for the first time in a while
A picture a took when I was sitting in the car making engine noises.

Power steering dosnt make it go any faster. I'm used to driving lots of old cars, manual steering, manual brakes, three on the tree etc. I'll manage
