My 1992 Camaro RS
My 1992 Camaro RS
Alright, to summarize
1992 RS, Red, 3.1, 700R4, base, '86 IROC fiberglass hood, only option is the rear window defroster, 148k miles, had 143k when I got it.
I found a salesman card for a dealership in Kansas, it's pre-email days so I believe this was the original salesman. This car ain't in Kansas anymore
. Because of the cars origins, I have decided to name the car Dorothy.
Fiberglass hood has the fake louvers, they aren't attached 'cause my father lost the nuts for them. The fiberglass hood is also REALLY annoying to shut.
Eats belts, mysterious antifreeze smell coming from engine. Temp stays in the cool, so, dunno what that is.
Tachometer does not like the cold, neither does the speedometer.
Sometimes if it's below 20F out I have no clue how fast I'm going, 'cause I haven't even got a tach to judge.
Hatch leaks.
Power hatch pull down does not work. Replacing it soon.
Needs door hinges, replacing them soon, body kit is scoured from the doors sagging.
Previous owner drove it through a picket fence
Motor was resealed around 140k miles. Oil pan was replaced, starter was bypassed, fan too I think.
Starter has been bypassed for ford style starter. Because of this, they key has no accessory feature position. Going to remedy this soon.
Cigarette lighter will blow the horn fuse, so it's unhooked
Terrible Boss Audio Aftermarket deck the PO's put in. The stereo is possessed, hardly works, an d often turns on randomly blaring 94.9 FM, "Star Country". The horror, the HOOOORRRRRORRRRRR!
One front speaker, front right, don't know where the front left went, ask the PO's,
. I only use the rear speakers, some old 6x9" Sony 30w RMS two way's that came out of our '73 Fiat Spider 124 Sport before we sold it.
Once had a CB radio, and a CD changer. Don't know where they went, but it also had a loud speaker under the hood. PO's took it out.
PO's wired the fan to the fuse, so when the ignition is on, the fan is on.
Front ground effect is gone 'cause it was busted and fell apart when we took it off to put the grill on. Guess it got FUBAR'd with the grill when the car ate a fence
Front nose is somewhat busted from the fence.
Drivers side high beam is a spotlight, it aims up and out, noticed this in the fog.
Rear tires, 225/75/R15 Firestone All Season M+S
Front Tires 205/65/R15 92S M+S Touring
Cost for tires, $20, mounted and balanced, they where free
Rear defroster works great, some of the interior is messed up, but fixable
Needs driver seat, dash pad, center console lid will open too far and get stuck.
Has a Tigers sticker in the back pass side, any advice on how to remove?

Re: My 1992 Camaro RS
How are the floors? usually these go when the cars are driven through the winter, also see some rust around that windshield, look into that also before dumping money into it. Body does not look too bad otherwise.
Re: My 1992 Camaro RS
Yeah, it use to be a 5 speed stick, it still has the dummy up shift and down shift lights. I'm gonna switch it back to a five speed soon.
I don't know who converted it to an auto but they where stupid to do that.
EDIT:
Floors are fine, rust is minor around the windshield as you mentioned, it can be fixed.
The floor pans have some surface rust underneath where the car sat. I'm gonna fix that this spring.
I have A LOT of stuff to do to this car, I will reactivate this thread with a car domain link when I start.
Oh, and noone noticed the third gen front nose on my porch.
EDIT EDIT:
Forgot to ask, how do you bend a door handle?

Re: My 1992 Camaro RS
The third brake light being melted is not the previous owner's fault. The bulbs they used in those lights just got too hot. Mine is the same way, and I took it apart, and it's obvious why.
Re: My 1992 Camaro RS
Either way, it hasn't happened to my brother's '92 RS. I was just inside that enclosure 'cause the pins for the third brake light needed to be bent back out. He almost got cited for his brake light being out.
My father and I are the guys in the family who get run too when stuff breaks. "FIX IT!", never much more than a thank you, but I don't mind. Only reason I got stuck doing it is 'cause my father might get in the back of a third gen to get too the interior brake light, but he won't get back out.
