newbie with a 92 RS

hello,
new here , just bought my daughter a 92 RS 305 auto with 65k.
it runs great and has nice interior, but the paint is shot. I plan to do the budget paint. I had painted several racecars with the tractor paint.

the t=tops must have been mirrored at one time but are now looking like bear fiberglass or plastic on the out side but are see through from the inside, not sure if they can be restored.

anyhow this my daughter first car and she will be taking it away to collage in the fall. hope to have it looking good by then.

I'd urge you not to do a "budget" paint on that car. With that low mileage and straight body, the tractor paint would ruin it. Sure, it will look good if done right. But if it ever needs to be re-painted down the road, It'd be a bitch and a half to remove that tractor paint. If you need budget, take it to Macco for a $300 special.

Re: newbie with a 92 RS

took her out last night for some test miles, I cleaned battery to body/fender ground and the speedo seems to work ok now. I was worried about the gas gauge because it was reading almost full (who sells a car with a full tank of gas LOL) turns out it had over 3/4 of a tank. car ran great. I think its going to be a great first car for my daughter.

and I think I will spring for the correct paint for a repaint.

where is the best place to get some of the little trim pieces like windshield spirter, seat belt shoulder seat bracket, wind shield trim. ect

Glad you decided on the correct paint! You won't regret it.

As for all the parts. Check local listings like craigslist, go to junkyard, check ebay, and Hawks Thirdgen.

Very cool. My first NEW car was a '91 RS. Didn't own it too long, but lots of great memories.
