I'm back!!!
I sold my ls1 swapped 91 z28 for a down payment on a new house and after 3 years of searching I finally found another z28 that was unmolested and a clean canidate to build. I bought the car off of the second owner who bought the car in 1994. The fuel pump had gone out and there the car sat in a field for 5 years before i bought it. It was completely original with nothing ever messed with. The only rust on the whole car was on one of the wheel wells. This winter I will do a ls t56 swap on this one. So it has a long way to go but has come a long way also already. It feels good to have another z28.
Picture from the ad when it was for sale.

Re: I'm back!!!
because the z28 I had to sell I did a ls1 swap in and I loved it. Since selling it I have been on a hard hunt for another clean swap canidate. My 91 z28 was a ls1 4l60e and this one is going to be a ls2 t56.

Re: I'm back!!!
A little update. I ripped out the entire interior which was gray and replaced everything going to black interior. I put in dynomat, new carpet, new door panels, and newly leather covered 02 camaro seats. I dyed all the plastics black. Also switched to 02 camaro seat belts. Here are some progress shots. I will update when it's finished.

I had the motor and trans pulled and removed and prepped the k member before i had the ls1. I bought it about a month after pulling the old motor.

I would. Have the hawks painted tail lights on my black 85 trans am and it looks real nice.

Re: I'm back!!!
I vote no on smoking them. I smoked mine several years ago (10 years ?) and after a year I noticed that the paint was fading and small areas were flaking off when washing them. It could be because I didn't properly prep them like when I paint a body panel. Scuff with 600 grit and spray. I was afraid that the scuffing would make the tailights opaque. So I wound up sanding the paint off and polishing them. I ended up liking the polished look more than the smoked look after that. If you really want dark tailights I would just use the tailight covers. I have a pair if want them.
EDIT: BadNBlk might be a good person to PM, I think he has smoked a fair amount and he might have a suggestion.

Re: I'm back!!!
Ok so my best friend owns a body shop and i am going to have him paint them with clear with black mixed in it. Im also going to change the amber lense to red. I also forgot to mention i just got these gauges installed! They are Dakota Digital VHX withwhite lights. They are expensive but worth every penny. The install was straight forward but time consuming.

Re: I'm back!!!
I wondered the same so i searched and saw people were disassembling the housing and spraying the inside with testers opaque red. I will have to read up on this some more before i attempt it. I also have another set of taillights I can practice on first.

Re: I'm back!!!
Bump for a good looking car. Quick question on these gauges... Are the turn signals and high beam indicator still in the factory location? I seem to remember reading another thread about the indicators being in the Tach, but I could be mistaken.

Re: I'm back!!!
The turn signal indicators are the 2 arrows and the high beam is in the square directly above them. So yes they are in the factory location.

Re: I'm back!!!
The car hadnt ran in awhile now so i finally had to take it somewhere to get it fixed. The wiring from the crank sensor was broke so it wouldnt start but all is good now and its back on the road. Here is the most recent pic on its way to the shop.

Re: I'm back!!!
Here are some pics from this last friday. I had a buddy buff the car before i went up to the local cruise in. I also got the taillights done except clearing them.
