So this hunk of junk is suppose to be a z28. It has an auto v8 that is suppose to be the original drivetrain. Did the sport coupes come with v8 at all in 86? What's up with that spoiler? I'm pretty sure it wasnt an option on an 86, looks like the spoiler on my 88.

I'm thinkin this is not a z28.

Re: 86 camaro questions
Camaros could have those spoilers but these cars are old enough that prior owners could have done God knows what. Only way to be sure what a car is is to run the vin and the rpo codes. Absent rpo codes it could be anything because the Z/28 and trans am came with so many different engines. You could easily pass an RS or formula for a Z/28 or trans am.

Re: 86 camaro questions
Very true. The fact that there are no holes in the side had me thinking maybe the spoiler came from the factory, but I guess it could have been a spoiler delete car, or the holes filled.

I'm most likely going to look at this car tomorrow. From what I can see in the pics, it needs about everything replaced, but I have a straight donor car. Usually pics make a car look better than it actually is, so I'm pretty scared of how it will look in person. lol

Re: 86 camaro questions
While not unfixable, look for rust in body seams, see if the doors sag, check the panel gaps are even, look for structural rust or damage anywhere. Remember if a floor pan is rusted out its a big job to replace.

Re: 86 camaro questions
The spoiler looks like a third gen firebird one to me.

Re: 86 camaro questions
^^possible.

Just to update, the car did say z28 on the dash. I don't see why they'd replace the whole dash, but possible. The car is beat up as you can see, the interior isn't much better. I must say, I was shocked that the engine and trans seemed fine. Lots of shadey wiring/mechanical work on the car. It's been rear ended and the rear impact bar is crushed, and the brakes work if you push them all the way to the floor. lol

Re: 86 camaro questions
about the spoiler , if you do some research you will find that it is correct for an 1988 S/C . my second 3rd gen was one (an 88 S/C) . what I found out , people hated , despised , complained , etc. . so it was a short run (not even a full year) . so maybe like some other weird stuff it may be collectible someday ??? good luck ...

Are you sure on that? I have a 1988 camaro with the short wing (or had a short wing, I should say) The spoiler ended on the hatch lid and did not go out over the 1/4 panel like the firebird one does. The ends bolted down to the outside edge of hatch panel.

Here are a couple pictures of my limited run 1988 shorty wing

As I've already said, I have an 88 sc and it's not the same spoiler. It does look similar, but it's not the same.

Re: 86 camaro questions
I have the hatch from an "88" SC with the "short wing" on my car and that one is not it.

Would the hatch from a Fire Bird fit that car ?

It probably is a firebird spoiler. I wouldn't doubt it a bit.

Re: 86 camaro questions
More then likely the hatch glass got busted and one from a bird replaced it. By the looks of the car the previous owner probably was looking for the cheapest quickest way to fix the problem.

Very likely. The car has definitely been rear ended at some point. It was pretty ugly behind that rear bumper.
