A little over 5 years ago I found a Rally Camaro out in the Arizona desert that had been raced from the mid 2000s until 2012 when DNFed for a mechanical issue and then sat in storage untouched.
At the time I was inbetween Subaru rally cars, and thought about building my 92 RS into a tribute rally car to that one but decided the cost was too high and just built another Subaru since I had already built one and had enough parts laying around to build another without worrying about cost too much. Fast forward to 2018 and I was bored with AWD rally cars and started looking into this Camaro again. With the help of a friend that had been in the sport longer I was able to get in contact with the owner and agreed on a price and decided to con some friends to go with me from St. Louis to Lake Havasu Arizona to go get it. After the 56 hour non stop road trip was over I had it back at my house to start the what turned into a long 2 year sort and rebuild to get back to rally ready state. Due to technical changes in the series it meant the cage would need to be redone. Here are a few photos from the process.
That....is...AWESOME!!! I won't be doing that to my recently purchased 1988 RS but man would I love to have another Gen 3 like the one you have to take on the old coal mining, logging, and strip mining roads that are all through these mountains where I live... it would be a killer vehicle to use as my dedicated hunting vehicle as well... lol.
