Re: buffing before and after pics
first i use 3M rubbing compound with the buffer right after i was finished i saw its gloss. then I use meguiars mirror glaze wax to lock and protect that shine. trust me you will thank your self for doing this.

Re: buffing before and after pics
just don't keep the buffer in the same spot allways keep it on the move. this buffing was my first buff job i ever did. I was worryed about me messing it up but all i did was keep it on the move and had it at about 2,000 to 2,500 RPM and no higher. KBcobra what's your paint look like anyway and pics of it.

Buffing isn't going to remove enough paint to worry about, especially if you use the right buffer, the right compounds, and the right technique. I'd suggest you join or browse one of the detailing forums, like danase or autopia. The guy who runs danase is great, and will help you put together a package if you are serious.
I'd highly suggest getting a Porter Cable 7424 dual-action polisher instead of a rotary. Rotary buffers are for experienced people, because they generate a lot of heat and can easily damage paint if you don't use them properly. With the PC and the right compounds, there is no chance of harming your paint and there is every chance that it will look better. Even with the heavy oxidation on that Camaro, you can get a lot of shine back. Clay bar first, then use your choice of compounds and a good quality wax to seal in the shine. Do one panel at a time over the course of a few weekends. I went with the Optimum polish kit for my '95 Formula http://danase.com/oppokit.html.
Good luck.
