Another 3rd gen back from the dead!
Hey everyone,
I bought a '92 firebird from a friend of mine back in February. Over the past 7 months I've been working on making it look and run great. I don't have any "before" pictures unfortunately, but I just got it back from the body shop and its looking good...so I decided to take some pics and post them. It got a few panels repaired, a new hood, and full paint (including the t-top and rear hatch trim.) It still needs to be wetsanded and buffed, I dont know if I'm going to attempt this myself or take it to a detailing place. Anyways, here is a list of all the things I've done to it since I bought it:
-Full tune up, replaced just about every sensor in the engine
-K&N filter
-Dynomax Superturbo exhaust
-1.6 inch drop
-Tokico Illuminas
-New sway bar links and bushings
-4th gen seats, new carpet and abs headliner
-drilled/slotted front rotors

I actually like the base firebird spoiler much better than the t/a spoiler...I'm not sure why its just a personal preference. I think because its a nice straight clean line instead of the curve. Also, the dynomax exhaust sounds great, most people on the road think I have a V8 even though I just have the 3.1. Unfortunately it will have to go when I do my LT1/T56 swap (hopefully) in the near future...

nice job on saving the car. dump those snowflake wheels though. one of the ugliest rims GM ever designed IMO
Re: Another 3rd gen back from the dead!
i think the base wing was just something pontiac threw at the car just so it would have a wing. it does not flow with the body and has no personality. thats just my opinion though

Thats fine, and I disagree (since I have the same look on my car, powerbuldge + base wing) and I even have the Formula wing in my basement.
Looks good.

Off topic but how did you get that many and get them that big
Re: Another 3rd gen back from the dead!
The car looks good, but are you going to add the decals back to it. I hate to see when people go out and get a new paint job, but decide to save the $ by not replacing the firebird decals.

Re: Another 3rd gen back from the dead!
They are called high tech turbos, and us Firebird owners like them just fine.
And the powerbulge and straight wing were a package deal on the early Trans Ams, and I agree, I like the nice straight lines of the wing.
By the way, those of you that have never really looked at one close, they are actually an upside down air foil, designed to create down force, just thought I'd share that before too much bashing got started.
Great looking 'bird, and that color of blue is one of my favorites!

Not bad man.
And I'm not sure about the wrap-around spoiler. Just last week I took mine off (GM made them out of RUBBER!?!?!). Yeah; The damn thing split down the side of the wing last winter. I took it off and puddied in the holes.
Makes the car look like the 70's birds imo.

Re: Another 3rd gen back from the dead!
Hey guys glad you like it. I think it came out great for a $1200 paint job. I cant wait to put the decals on, but the paint job still needs to be color sanded and buffed before I do that. One of my friends has a 87 formula but he put the "formula" decals on before he got it color sanded, it just came out looking kinda crappy imo.
btw the pics are linked to my own ftp server, they are not actually hosted by TGO so theres no limit to the size or quantity that I can post this way.

Re: Another 3rd gen back from the dead!
Thanks everyone. I actually have a couple of updates... I did "dump" the stock rims and picked up a set of the 16inch crosslace gta rims with 245/50/16 yokahamas. INCREDIBLE improvement... I'll post some pics after this nasty weather we are having here clears up.
I also backed into someone pulling out of my driveway
thankfully the damage was very minor but I will need to have the bumper cover resprayed to get it perfect again.
aaand.... SFCs are on.
If you are in the Philadelphia area, I highly recommend JS Performance (jsspeedandcustom.com). As many other members of this site will tell you, Josh does excellent work.

I notice that your car doesn't have any ground effects, and has the nosecone without the fog lights. This is how Formulas are equipped. I thought all base birds got the GFX...did some come with none and with the same nose as the Formulas?

I think that car looks GREAT! The powerbulge hood and spoiler look great on the car. I'd love to see that car with some torque thrust 2's on it!

Re: Another 3rd gen back from the dead!
I think the flat rear spoiler was to clean up airflow off the back of the car and lessen turbulance behind the car instead of making downforce.

Doesn't sound like your mechanic was on the right track.
Formulas all had V8 power, a different spoiler from stock, no gfx (you qualify there) and probably some other distinctions of which I am unaware.

$1200 paint? Damn man, looks good! Was it a single-stage paint job? Did they do any body work? If I could get all the nagging little dents out of my RS and paint it up for $1200 I'd be all over that...

I love those wheels. That is the same color I painted my wheels about6 months ago. I'm just waiting until the car gets painted to put them on.

UNFORTUNATELY, I backed into a corolla pulling out of my driveway which is why there is a chunk of paint missing from my rear bumper. Just got it fixed, cost $300.

DUDE THE PAINT LOOKS *******
But, is it me or the picture but doesnt the hood look a little...off with the lights and bumper?
OVERALL: $1200 for that good of lookin paint....GREAT PRICE.
I had a kid AKA "***** BOI" with an Eclipse come tell me he spent $4000 on a hood repaint and fender repaint...I THINK he thought that meant his car was FASTER now....HA HA.
Great car man, looking forward to seeing mroe of it around the boards.
