2001 Firebird

Got a 2001 3.8 V6 Firebird. Engine seized the other night while driving. All fluids good and no sign of leakage. What in gods name causes the engine to seize like that. "Mechanic" says the engine needs to be replaced (longblock) anyone have recommendations or similar situation?

Thanks in advance!
