like my new car but it runs like crap. i got in this condition and have checked everything to no avail. it runs , but hard to get it to stay ideling as it surges up and down, like it has a vacuum leak, but it doesn't. only code it displays is 42. est circuit. o2 sensor, tps esc, aic, dist module, knock sensor ,temp sensor, egr, air pump, all replaced and triple checked, ecm is putting out 5 v on the reference wire and it is getting it to the module, but the module will not switch to est circuit, and despite jumping it , i can't force it to do it. the timing was set with the bypass disconnected and the engine warm. as soon as the engine displays the ses light ,it will idle but the computer takes like 10-15 degrees of timing and it won't give it back no matter what i wiggle or check. i would get a new computer if i thought that was it but, near as i can tell it stops at the distributer. i am frustrated and definately looking for an older carbed 350 to put in, i just hate to be beaten by anything and would like to fix it. the harness and engine bay are in great shape with no cobjob or signs of tampering or burned wires etc... any help would be greatly appreciated cause, i know that i don't know everything and i am obviously missing something thanks again aaron

is this a TBI or TPI car? You'll get way more help on one of those boards, this is the appearance related board.

poss bad pick up inside the dist... just had that prob, but the computer or prom may be bad... if you have access to a scan tool, run it with the datastream on and with the engine running go the the spark advance, bring up the rpm to 3-4k, and back down, the spark advance number needs to change, not sit still, this will cause the car to run bad, but also be sure you have correct voltage out of the alt as a start... anyone feel free to add more input
