Re: Post your firebird pics
I did post one pic on this thread,
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/auto...one-pic-7.html
but saw this thread as an opportunity to post a few more. These were all taken last summer. Photography is another hobby of mine and thus I'm always looking forward to taking pics of my ThirdGen.
I'm the original owner of this 1988 Trans Am. Still 100 percent stock, other than the tires and battery. 48,000 miles. Stored winters - never seen snow.

1. First you need to upload your photos to a photo sharing website like Photobucket, Flickr, etc. I use Photobucket which is free and easy to use.
2. Once you have your photos uploaded to the photo sharing website, look for a settings button on each photo, or right click and look for the IMG Code. This is basically the link for your photo that you can paste into your post at Thirdgen.org.
3. At this point you want to open another window in your web browser and go to the thread where you want to post your photos.
4. Then click back to your photo sharing web page, right click "copy" on the IMG code, and then go back to the Thirdgen.org web page and right click "paste" into your open thread reply. At this point you should see the link which may look like a bunch of letters and numbers.
5. Press the "preview post" button below the reply box and you should now see your image.
Hope this helps.

Re: Post your firebird pics
My work in progress.1991 Firebird w/ Sport Appearance Package and factory v8 upgrade. Daily driver, 180,000 miles. Just bought the bra (never installed) on EBay for $9.99 plus shipping. I also just found out that the Sport Appearance Package was test marketed for 6 months under 2 names in 1989.
Today I hunted down and purchased a set of Firebird SSA emblems on EBay for $25 (includes shipping). They will be going on the car when they arrive.

Re: Post your firebird pics
Nobody seems to know for sure (read a lot of posts in a lot of forums today ).
"Quote from Mantaguy in this thread:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...-firebird.html
" I found this on Google
.I've read on-line that this was an early version of the sports appearance package, essentially ground effects intended to make a Firebird look more like the Trans-Am, but without the T/A hood or tail lights.
It was called the XS package in L.A. and the SSA in Sacramento, CA and Denver, CO.
Estimates on how many were made is 750, but this is second (third) hand info.
That would make it fairly rare, but not necessarily much more valuable.
No word on a meaning behind the letters, it's likely just a marketing gimmick.
Source(s):
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/histor…
http://forums.performanceyears.com/forum…"
The XS was obviously a play on the RS Camaro, both came with V6 power.
The SSA sounds to me like "Super Sport Appearance" but I'm a dreamer!

Re: Post your firebird pics
I think I figured it out! The SSA was marketed in Sacramento, San Fransisco and Arizona (according to another post I read, The Denver ones were apparently not badged as SSA's).
"I would want one of these over any other base Firebird.
These cars were build to give owners a chance to drive a Trans Am look-a-like, without paying the high insurance or gas prices.
Pontiac did the same thing with the Firebird 500 in the early 80s, and then by bringing out the Sport Apearance Package on the base Firebird in 1989.
First with it being sold in three areas.
Los Angeles being the Firebird XS.
Sacramento (California) being the Firebird SSA.
And Denver having it (I don't know if it had just the plain Firebird badge, or something else).
Within six months of selling these models, they all came with the Firebird badge.
Ran them up to 1991.
I like them, and as I said, would love to have one."

"This was an option over the base Firebird.
In the Los Angeles area, it was known as the Firebird XS (with Firebird XS badges on the front fenders).
In the Sacramento (again, in California), it was known as the Firebird SSA (with Firebird SSA badges on the front fenders).
There was another market, Denver, CO., but to date, I have never seen any kind of badge for that one."
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...xs-1989-a.html
"I've been having trouble finding information on my car. Its a 1989 Firebird SSA it has a V6 2.8 liter. It also originated in Arizona not California. I would appreciate it very much if anyone could tell me more about this car."
"The San Francisco/Sacramento zone had "Firebird SSA" emblems. These dropped to just the "Firebird" emblem later in this year. Though my book doesn't mention it, I'm sure that it would have been entirely possible for the Phoenix area to be a part of the "San Francisco/Sacramento zone" too. That would only come into question if your 'bird was sold brand new in Arizona. GM did several "zone" versions of the third-gens it seems. I had an '88 Camaro Sport Coupe that was a zone vehicle for the Midwest, and was styled after the IROC. It was a "pre-RS" Camaro, and was used to test the market for the upcoming RS Camaro in 1989".
Sacramento, San Fransisco, Arizona=SSA!
This conclusion is a neat coincidence, but not correct! For what I believe the REAL answer is, I started this thread:

I have the black caps too. I figured I'd switch them around every so often just to change things up. Can't decide which ones I like best yet.

Re: Post your firebird pics
This is my 5th 3rd gen Firebird, 4 Formula's and 1 GTA. I also owned a 88 IROCZ. I've sold them in the past to buy something else and then wondered why I got rid of them later. I plan on trying to keep this one. They are getting a lot harder to find especially ones in decent condition.

I'd stay with the black lug caps, looks cleaner, just my opinion though.

Re: Post your firebird pics
Here's my 1989 TTA replica.
Its getting at this very moment a new rebuilt transmission, full MSD tune up and ignition box, BMR frame connector, steering chassis brace and front strut brace.
Probably will have the wheels redone.
Later this year probably during winter, I will redo the interior.
New carpet, headliner trim kit and dye all the plastic trim.
Also looking to get that radio fixed.
