My 89 Formy becoming more than first thought
A while back I purchased an '88 T/A. It was a wreck - bodywise.
It has a 305 TPI, which I have always had a fondness for. I have never owned one though.
My intention was to use the mechanics of this car for another and salvage any other parts.
Well a friend of mine had an 89 Formula. Years ago he actually had it in the world of wheels show in New Orleans. It looked good.
He had a 305 TBI in it and enjoyed driving it around. He hung around some people that, over time,
convinced or influenced him into thinking he needed more horsepower.
He built a 350 TPI with vortech heads. Copying the build from a magazine article. It never ran right afterwards.
It got to the point at one time that the headers were glowing red.
He parked it and life happened to him as well.
Fast forward six years later he is back on his feet.
He found a identicle 89 formula in New York state, 305 TBI and all.
I wound up buying the body minus the engine and trans.
Know I just want a clean looking formula.
Keeping the costs down to a minimum as much as possible.
( remember I typed this, I seem to of forgotten this along the way)
The seller wanted his formula rims back and had removed an aftermarket ground effects kit by Razzi.
So here is the pic with the 88 T/A rims on it after I removed the clearcoat from the polished part of the rim

I had a regular spoiler in storage and have since installed it.
The seller kept his fiberglass aero spoiler for his new formula.
I want to keep this car's costs down, $400 + Shipping is too much for appearance.
I also removed the formula decal off the doors.
I will re appy it, but probably in the lower section.
Here is a pic of the spoiler. I kept the third brakelight from the aero wing.

While the engine is out, I took a good look at the engine compartment.
The previous owner is a friend and well intentioned,
but his level of experience in certain areas of the do it yourself repairs are up to a level of quality that I would not accept on my cars.
He tried to paint the engine compartment.
He painted the wiring harness, the fuel lines, pine needles, leaves and a small acorn nut!

Here is the passenger side after I stripped almost all of it down.
I also removed the Brake Booster, Steering Box, Wiper Motor, etc.
Found a rust hole in the firewall behind some body filler under the hood release cable hole. Simple project, my !#@$%!^@.

Cleaned it up a bit and applied a bit of primer

Applied a bit of paint. (Drivers side)
Well the Strut mounts are out getting powder coated red.
So they can match the strut brace.
I did say trying to keep the cost down and keeping it simple.......
More to come as the weather down rollercaosters back into reasonable.
I have no garage.

Re: My 89 Formy becoming more than first thought
The holidays are over and I had a day or two of good weather.
Got the factory strut mounts powdercoated red, reassembled and installed.
Put a few other things back on as well.
I am still undecided whether to put the A/C back on or run it without A/C ?
