1985 Firebird

Hi everyone. I just picked this car up a few days ago, and thought I'd share some pictures of it. The car is in pretty good shape with zero rust underneath. 84,000 original miles. No Trans Am here, just a plain bird, but it is a factory 5 speed LG4. This car is 100% reliable, and healthy. I love it

More pics. This will be my daily driver for the summer. First thing will be an oil change followed by all other fluids (except brakes). I'm thinking of just staying with a good conventional oil.

Re: 1985 Firebird

needs a fender, I think (dinged up). Has anyone heard of epoxy primer, and Duplicolor Color Match? I have a rust spot that I want to handle (you can see at bottom corner of driver side door). Thanks, and I'm glad you like it

Re: 1985 Firebird

The horn doesn't work. There is a fuse blown, but I'll replace it. The wire under the horn cap looks good. There are wires sticking into the fuse box (maybe for radio?) Should I just pull them out?

Looks just like my 88. Like the look without a spoiler. Im considering that if I cannot find a reasonably priced wrap around spoiler.

Re: 1985 Firebird

I have some more interesting pics for you guys. It looks like He has a line plugged up. What should I do with this, as I have the stock air cleaner. Please help. Should I use that line and put the stock air cleaner on? what is best for the engine? thanks

I love it without a spoiler. You don't see a clean trunk that often. different

Re: 1985 Firebird

This is why I went to LT swap. NO damn vacume lines... wow what a cluster "F"...
That damn 350 tpi setup was such a rats nest. Hated even looking under the hood.

Re: 1985 Firebird

I just found some new pics. Is this some stuff or what? WS6, or just Rally suspension? Did someone just put that piece in there?

Re: 1985 Firebird

I have that same piece of trim. Mine is a formy 350. Also had a friggin camaro center console and 82-84 taillights with formula center piece lol... hate jerkoffs that just piece together a bunch of crap. Now about the "performance" tag, I have no idea.

Re: 1985 Firebird

looks like a junkyard piece to me. They didn't even bother to wipe off the crayon/chalk. WTF. SMH. I guess I have a WS6 dash panel. great

I just took it out today. Whenever I drive it, all doubt is eliminated. So much fun to drive.

Re: 1985 Firebird

well, the time has come to do some work on the bird. This Sunday I will be doing an oil change with a K&N oil Filter and some good conventional 10w30 (maybe Penzoil). My buddy told me that if I go to synthetic oil, I can not go back unless I change the oil pickup (something about metal particles in the pickup.....engine go boom....ect). I need to research more about this, but money is tight, so a clean conventional is 10x better than any dirty oil. I will also be timing the car because it has a high idle at around 1100 RPM, so i figure to check timing first, but something tells me its the carb, cause if I barely crack the throttle open the RPM drop as if the car will stall, and then go back up to 1100 RPM. It will continue to go up and down with my foot resting on the gas pedal, but 1/8 to full throttle seem to function flawlessly. It also feels like it has a slight miss. It's hard to feel but It's there. I will do a fuel filter as well. The coolant will be flushed eventually but I don't think I will have the funds to do it this week. I will be installing a Mr. Gasket 160* T-stat, so that the engine runs cooler. Eventually the rear end fluid will be changed out along with the Trans Fluid. What are your thoughts on running synthetic trans and rear end oil, and what brand of oil would you recommend? It is a 5 speed trans ( m5?). Also I need to figure out why the horn doesn't work. I will replace one blown fuse, and check the horn relay. I guess that about covers it for now. I'll you guys posted on everything. Also, if anyone has any input on what I said, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
