Re: Post pics of your black firebirds !!!
It started out life as an '87 formula, and the guy that had it before me had started to clone it over to a T/A. I ended up using a wrecked '87 T/A as a donor car for all the GFX and ducting. It did have vents on the fenders, just too dark to tell in the pictures. You can kind of see them if you look real hard. It had the flat wing on the back when I got it, and I always liked how that looked so I never put the aero wing on it.

Twas a carbureted 305, aluminum vette heads, comp roller cam, and a bunch of other goodies. T56 swap. It died last summer, and I took the insurance money to buy my GTA. I've slowly been getting everything swapped over.

The conversions were done to this car back in the mid 80's where I live. It was my wife's ex partner's car that I acquired. I have the brochures showing who and what was done to the car.

Re: Post pics of your black firebirds !!!
I'm
for black Pontiacs! This was my old '74 Ventura/GTO shaker hood 350 4bbl. Turbo 400. This was smooth-as-glass black lacquer! Nothing like it

Soooo, this fella that lives near me is going to sell an '89 Firebird 2.8 MPFI for scrap. I get from him for $1,000.
Floor pans rusted out, fenders and quarter panels rusted off at the bottom, exhaust pipes rusted off (got duals now), front brakes locking up (old rubber hoses swell inside) rear brakes not working (the right rear shoes were on backwards), fuel lines rusted out, leaking, lighting wiring cut and hotwired to the battery, push button start, get the idea?
Two years work and it passes inspection.
I've started painting. This is it at the moment:

Still working on the roof/t-top area prepping for paint. The wheels will be black with orange spoke edges and chrome button centers, I would prefer Cragar S/S, I have two, need two:

Still working on the hood prepping for paint:

Just took off the spoiler today, no latch lock, the whole mechanism is busted, plastic sliders gone, plastic motor housing cracked & busted and flopping around, I made brackets to hold it in place til I find another one along with a whole bunch of other stuff!

There will be much more black around the bottom when the graphics are done.
It's going to look like the IMPONTU 'RUINER" from the Grand Theft Auto IV video/computer game as seen here:

Wish I could get that 'specular" look like above but I guess I'll have to be satisfied with the current Rustoleum rattlecan gloss black and bright orange. Speaking of orange, the new paint is very orange peeley, I dread the amount of sanding it's going to take to get it ready for clear coat!!
320 grit doesn't get rid of the gloss between the orange peel "bumps". I'm going to have to go 220 and work up to 400!
I wonder if a clear coat with metalflake would mimic that specular effect? Rattlecan, of course!

The tires I bought due to price/value but they look aggressive. they would not look right with the stock wheels. I like how it looks industrial
I am not a fan of the golds. I do like black cross laces though!
If I could find a cheap set of golds I would powdercoat them

Nice. Who redid the seats? Do you have any pictures of the entire seat? What material did you use?
Lots of questions here, because I'd like to do the same thing to the GTA in the near future.

1986 Trans Am, Super Ram, custom interior, Ronals, the list goes on...

89 GTA, 26K Miles

Spent a lot of time with the buffer, results were worth it. You can see the ceiling and wall seam in the shine if you look closely.

91 GTA, 42K Miles, SLP Dealer Installed Options

Re: Post pics of your black firebirds !!!
Here's mine, picked up about 3 weeks ago of a member on here. Haven't even been able to wash her yet. But i love it....and cannot wait for the snow to be gone. Heads, intake and Carb should be arriving soon for a little more fun. Previous owner had it for about 15 years and its been amazingly restored and was clearly very well loved. And I plan on some minor changes with either different wheels, or plastic dip these black, and a touch lower all around, flat black hood wrap, and flat black second Gen German script TA decals minus the hood bird.

Just got this one, needs some TLC. I'm calling her Black Betty. My first Firebird and I am very excited. Please feel free to give me some pointers, tips, and some ideas on what to do first, after I get it driveable
