Re: New 1988 Formula i got

Well today they had a ford focus on the lift and their almost done with it so after their done with that their putting the formula on the lift to get the driveshaft back in. Then I can get it home. Tomorrow I'm getting the fender off the GTA and hopefully in the next couple days I will paint the headlight and fender.

Re: New 1988 Formula i got

Well I was told today that they got the driveshaft put in today, awesome!! I got the fender off the GTA and found out its a new GM replacement fender, a bonus! All I have to do is weld the holes for the ground effects closed. I'm also stealing the turn signal of the GTA too. Poor GTA lol!

They didn't drop off the car today so I was pretty bummed, but I did get the fender and headlight primed today.

looks totaled to me. Total= Repair cost is higher than car value. But i would deffinatly fix it. I work at a dealership body shop and cars that are newer with less damage always get totaled.

Cool project though I love thoes formulas.

Re: New 1988 Formula i got

So the headlight is wetsanded and buffed! It is probably going to look better than the rest of the car lol!! But anyways I was debating if I want to pull of the spoiler and paint it with the bed liner. It just looks bad with the cracked and chipped off paint. Heres an ok picture of the headlight.

Re: New 1988 Formula i got

Me and my dad are thinking the knock is a broken flywheel. It only knocks when starting up and driving it. So I bought a new plug/bolt thing and gasket. We got the frontend straightend and new bumper absorber put on. I'm trying to fix the bumper cover, I need to invest in a heat gun for that! I'm going to wire brush the surface rust on the floors and undercoat them tomorrow possibly. Thats all for now folks!

Re: New 1988 Formula i got

Picture time!! I undercoated the floors today, here it is on the frame rack!!(Passenger door opens now. Plus I got a door hinge roller yesterday to put on while I have the fender off. You can see whats why I need a heat gun for the bumper cover. The 2nd picture is the quarter panel, it has a weird spot that must of had surface rust growing on it. Cargo cover is installed aswell! I also threw in a picture of my Borla exhaust going on it. Theres also a picture of the trunkwell rust that I'm going to take care of too.

Your garage looks exactly like mine. After buying the lift I got sick of only being able to get the car 2.5' off the ground, so I modded the garage a little and it's worked great:

$450 is a steal!!!.........keep wrenching. I'm prepping the bare-bones white '91Z in the pic above for an LS swap so giddy up!

Any heat in that garage?

Re: New 1988 Formula i got

Been doing some different stuff to it at the moment. The headlights are back in, I'm going to put some temporary paint on the drivers side of the bumper just to take it to safety testing, then I will repaint the whole thing. I bought a new water pump since the alternator wasn't the growling noise it was making. The water pump I figured out was about junk. Also bought a new thermostat. Heres some pics! You can see I'm touching up that rough spot on the quarter panel.

The new belt and water pump is on! So is the alternator. Its getting some fresh oil tomorrow, it was pretty nasty. It probably had 5,000 miles on it. Also its getting some new anti-freeze tomorrow!

I'd go with fluorescent orange instead jk.

But, since you asked for opinions... I would repaint the wheels with silver instead of gold, to match the decals.

You're making some good progress with the car. The bumper skin and left fender look pretty darn good.

I think Gold decals would look awesome. If I were you, I'd lose the pinstripe, and use gold 3rd Gen decals. Hard to beat a black and gold Poncho.

Gold! Lose the pin stripe too. Those wheels would be really sharp powder coated. I would go with a gold with plenty of flake for the wheel centers and keep the polished lips. Wouldn't hurt to remove the door ding protector strips either. I like the cleaner lines especially on the formulas with their slightly more rounded appearance.

Re: New 1988 Formula i got

I'm a bit old fashioned, and think that whatever came with the car is usually best. Hence, paint the wheels silver, definitely lose the pinstripe, and remain with silver decals everywhere else. And you're doing a great job; keep it up!

Another vote for spraying the wheel's centers silver and keeping the emblems silver.

Thanks for the feedback! Heres some more pictures, I decided to get rid of the orange on the valve cover. I put some seat covers on since the drivers side seat was tore up. I might throw in some grey leather power 4th gen I seats I have sometime. The anti-freeze is in and oil is going in tomorrow! She is close to being safety tested, can't wait!

Looking good man. I'd definitely go with the 4th Gen Seats. They are super comfortable, and really easy to put in.

I got my trunk well rust taken care of, I cleaned it up and undercoated it. Then gave it a couple coats of gloss black.

Re: New 1988 Formula i got

Can't believe its december already!! Anyways I got the speaker grills painted and radio installed. It actually has aftermarket speakers in the dash, I think the sail panel ones are stock but I haven't checked. I've been messing with the hood too. It pops up now when the release is pulled. Tomorrow I'm going to wetsand the spot on the quarter panel and bumper. Now for pics!

Re: New 1988 Formula i got

The dash pad seems to be in perfect condition, which is rare. If it came with the car, that alone justifies the purchase - lol. I've seen dash pads offered for sale for crazy money. A while back I saw one offered on Craig's List locally for only $50. I should've bought that one the moment I saw it, even though mine is in perfect condition. By the time I contacted the seller, it was gone

Glad to see you are getting rid of the fluorescent orange accents

Re: New 1988 Formula i got

Thanks guys! Today I got some painting done, I need to wetsand and buff it now. My dad is making me a custom console lid too. Next I need to fix my drivers side seat belt, for some reason it won't retract. I think its the flywheel. It would almost have to be because its a 305 with only 119,000 on it. The knock goes away at higher RPM's and when it goes into gear it stops, rattles and knocks again. Maybe from the wreck the torque converter went forward on impact and came back and slammed into the flywheel??

Re: New 1988 Formula i got

I got the seat belt retracter out and managed to destory that part of the headliner lol! It was a gear that popped out and wasn't catching on another gear. So tomorrow I can put it back in the car since I think it's fixed. The quarter is almost blended and I put some bondo on the hood. Sorry for no pics!

Re: New 1988 Formula i got

I got the seatbelt back in and it seems to be working now. I cleaned the interior a little bit. I have been working on the hood which shuts fine now. I need some blending clear for the quarter panel. Now for the pictures!
Drivers seat treasure!
