Got a good deal on this Formula, it has a 305 TBI engine and the C&C T-tops. 17 inch gotti wheels. Going to be my Daily driver while the GTA is getting a resto mod. Its wrecked but an easy fix already got the parts on order. Minor rust and this is a great body for a car in the midwest, interior is nice but seats are ripped.

119k on the odometer, it looks like it was well taken care of till the last owner got it

 

Looks like a good fixer-upper. I'd loose the red interior trim and aftermarket wheels. Black Formulas look good with the factory wheels, IMO. The back half looks to be in pretty good shape.

 

Oh it is lol, pretty solid the worst rust is on the drivers side quarter panel on the lip of it probably the size of a quarter but its only a bubble. As far as the wheels go i'm probably going to keep them on since i have a brand new set of tires for it. Other than that i'm going to clean it up and throw in 4th gen seats i have laying around.

 

after some researching I found out the 17 inch gotti's are pretty rare most are 16's and these were about $3,000

 

Thought about putting my 350 tpi in it, the 305 tbi in it has a little knock on the start up but only for a few seconds.....

I'm thinking the knock on the start up is the fram oil filter not holding oil or its cheap oil filter. Going to slap a AC delco on it and see it that helps

how are the strut towers on the car? Any major rust areas?

 

Strut towers are good I'll check again when it gets dropped off here, Spare tire well was still solid amazingly! Underbody had a little surface rust on the floors but this car is "rust free" for a midwest car, it came from the quad cities

 

Carpet looks a little roughed up, some fresh seats, repainting that orange back to black, minor tlc and you have a very nice formula, I always Said to myself, one day after I get my dream Thirdgen GTA & Iroc together in the same garage, I'll look for a nice Formula fully loaded either an '88 & '89 or maybe even a 90 in the same condition as this one you got & fix her up to showroom condition preferably a 5.0 TPI m5 of a 5.7 A4 combo. But even that tbi has lots of potential to be a Sweet project & Future Street Ruler.

BTW I love the Wheels gotti Are they? never heard of them but they appeal to me, they look like they belong on a ferrari F40 or a 90's Diablo, I'd give em a nice cleaning & keep em Gold they go Very well with the car being black.

I'm going to spend a day detailing it and getting rid of the super awesome orange, I got 2 grey leather 4th gen seats too that are going in The Gotti wheels are a french company. I did some research and they made them for like ferraris and all that good stuff. These wheels must be fairly old they dont make 17's anymore. But yup wish it were a 5 speed but I can live with it. Now that I have this for a daily driver I can fully redo the GTA and IROC.

Scottys auto parts in Virginia (my dad used to work there) they moved my dads 88 mustang to the back of the yard and destroyed the rocker on it, lets hope he learned. Yeah I heard he was selling it, Did he put it on craigslist? I'm pretty sure one was on there

 

No huge updates, cleaned up the 4th gen seats for it and thats about it. I want to bring it home but have no room!

 

All I got so far for it is a edelbrock air cleaner to replace the nasty one that was on it. I didn't like the chrome so I scuffed it and 2k primed it the paint turned out bad so im going to spray it black pearl, I also want to spray the valve covers in black pearl (I'll include some pics of a cummins with black pearl on it)

Nice Formula, but TPI > TBI How much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking? That's not really in bad shape at all. I love the wheels though, they look excellent with the Formula. Personally, I haven't found very many wheels that look good with a Formula, but I do like those.

For the record, I vote 350 TPI swap

 

It was bought on copart for $450. LOL i'm not a fan of the TBI either but as far as swaps go my GTA is first in line for a 5.3 LSX

 

Buttt I forgot the engine is knocking on the start up so if its not the oil filter not holding oil its either getting a 350 tbi my buddy has or the 350 TPI out of the GTA

 

Sooo its been awhile but I thought i'd update.....I still haven't got it home yet, The knock is due to the fact its low on oil. I hope thats because it had a jiffy lube service and they jipped the guy a quart of oil lol. Its low on coolant too. I got under the car to inspect it some more and it looks like someone straight piped it too. I wondered why it was so loud when my buddy started it up.

 

Looks like a great project! Perfect for a DD in my opinion!

 

Havent been getting on here much so more updates! and yes I plan on it being a daily driver since its not in perfect shape but thing again its way far from bad shape.

As far as updates my Headlight came in, I need to get my new tires put on sometime. I also need to put in my 4th gen leather seats too. After a oil change if it continues to knock its getting a cammed 350 TPI! I also thought about putting a flowmaster system on it since its 3 inch straight piped at the moment.

Painted my air cleaner, and my shift handle. I'd like to outline the edelbrock in silver, and the b&m in silver.

 

Its hard to tell but, the clear has more of a wet look than it does in the pictures.

Got some parts out today, first off are my new tires for the wheels. I also got a headlight and I'm using the fender off my GTA since the GTA will get all new sheet metal anyways. My bumper absorber is on its way to, just ordered it yesterday

 

Nice find, I really like the wheels. probably the only wheels I would put on my formula other then the ronals I have now

No, I'm getting tired of waiting though! I just went and saw it today and picked up those parts to paint. Sometime this week I would love to get it home. Their slow down there though, they were suppose to put the driveshaft back in it, well that was 2 months ago!

 

Sweet Car, Looks like a fun project, I'm thinking of buying an 87 Bird myself. It's got a little more rust then that one does, but It'll be a cool project if I ever get around to it. Anyways, I look forward to watching this car change and get better.
