The slowest V-8 on the board
Our 82 WS7 is one very original old bird. She is a white with black trimmed, a highly optioned LG4 powered T/A with 24,300 actual miles. We call her Whitebird. It is not very inventive as a name, but it fits this car. The original Eagle GT's are still on the ground with the bowling ball caps. The original hoses and belts with the exception of the upper radiator hose are original. The marks made by the workers on at the Norwood assembly plant are still bright and very visable under the hood. She is a time capsule. We were invited to the Norwood Reunion this year, but regretfully had to decline due to family obligations. We are hoping to get invited again next year.
The 82's had the 200C three speed automatic, as the 700R4 was not released until 83. The 10 bolt posi diff has 3:23 gears in it, and the WS7 means that it has aluminum brake drums on the rear instead of the the rear disc set-up that the WS6 cars had. Whitebird is probably the slowest V8 powered thirdgen on this site, as the already limited 145HP engine is choked down b the three speed auto trans. I have never raced the car, but did time it. It is a 17.5 second wonder. We shown the car for the first time this year at the F Body Gathering in Atlanta on Memorial Weekend, and it earned Class Winner for the 82-92 Stock Firebird Trailered Class. I will post pictures soon.

Re: The slowest V-8 on the board
I absolutely love this car!! Kudos to you for keeping it all original. Unfortunately, the 82 TA is one of the most underappreciated cars of the 3rd generation. They are my favorite. My 82 MSE has basically the same engine (LG4) but the BW super T-10 manual tranny. I have the git kit in original packaging and not bolted on the car, so the HP is similar. Its a shame most focus on the slowness instead of the inovative new body style, ground effects, PMD's and some of the unique features only the 82 cars have. Maybe when they reach half a century old they will be more seen as the gateway to the 3rd generation F body era instead of a slow V-8.

I am far from a stock-****. Still, don't ever mod this car. It's great.

Re: The slowest V-8 on the board
The 82's are slugs. This car is so slow that my Crown Vic DD seems sprited compared to it. My 86 TPI car will run circles around it. However none of the rest of the thirdgens or fourthgens for that matter would not exist if the 82 cars were never built. The 82's have an important place in f-body history.

Re: The slowest V-8 on the board
I have to admit that sometimes that I think about how cool it would be to drop a ZZ4 with a trottle body, a Tremec 6 speed, and a Moser 12 bolt. I am going to have to buy a project car to mod, so that these two low mile stockers remain untouched. Maybe find a decent highmileage RS with a V6 to build into a street rod.

Re: The slowest V-8 on the board
This is a shot of the dashboard before I reinstalled the rebuilt original HU, replaced the steering wheel with an OE wheel with a professionally made custom leather cover, cleaned everything up, and did some minor repair/restoration work.

Reading your title for this thread, I imagined a 267 with a DualJet, a Powerglide, and a 2.29:1 gear all swapped in. I vote for all the upgrades that can't be detected, starting with a 200-4R.

Re: The slowest V-8 on the board
Nope, sorry, just a stock all original out of the can 82 GM corporate smog legal 145 HP LG4 powered Knightrider era car packed with lots of peanuts and no muscle.
Re: The slowest V-8 on the board
You said it- "smog legal". LOL These cars are so junked up with emissions stuff. My 82 V-6 car is just as bad if not worse. The car is choked out by all those "smog trinkets". Whitebird is still very cool looking though.

Re: The slowest V-8 on the board
I unplugged the torque converter lock-up, and the transmission shifts a lot better. The trans was rebuilt about 500 miles ago, and it seems to be working perfectly. When these things were new, the fluid did not circulate to the cooler unless the torque converter was locked, however from mid 83 on per GM update, anytime there is a reason to pull the valve body the valve body is drilled so the fluid is circulated any time the trans is in drive or reverse.
Those 200C's will lock up at 15 MPH, and cause the engine to lug. We live in a rugged mountainous area, and slow speed driving around lots of winding roads is the norm. By having the lock-up unplugged the trans holds gears a little longer allowing the engine rpm to develop a little torque, and the car drives a lot better. Granted if we lived in an area where the roads were flatter the hills not as steep, and the speeds faster, I would leave it plugged in.

Re: The slowest V-8 on the board
The original owner had swapped in an aftermarket HU, but provided the original HU with the car. I installed the aftermarket HU in my boat. I had the original Delco HU completely rebuilt and installed it back in the car. There is a slight difference in the buttons on the tape mechanizm, as it was taken from a newer Delco unit but otherwise it is OE.
I have a 12 disc Pioneer CD mounted in the locked storage box, which plays through an FM modulator. It is not high tech, but it works OK and allows us to play CD's without modifying the HU or the car. We have few choices for radio stations where we live. Public radio on FM and one 700 watt local AM station that is on the air from 8AM until 5PM.
My next plan is to add a small four channel inline amp and upgrade the original speakers, which rattle a little. Ian Kee at Kee Audio helped me to rework the Performance Sound system in my 86, and it turned out great! Ian has some good stuff for these cars. The amp will be mounted under the kick panel out of sight. The wiring will be accessed via an adaptor to avoid cutting into the factory wiring. Better speakers and an amp will allow a little better bass response and still use the Delco HU. It will never compare to a quality aftermarket system, but will allow the car to look stock and be unmolested.

Re: The slowest V-8 on the board
Have you considered having an aux input added to the unit? I found a refurbished OEM radio for my 84 on eBay, which had the aux added to the faceplate, but you hardly notice it. You can also have it installed externally with longer wires, which allows you to hide it inside the ashtray or console, or mount it remotely under the dash, for example. That way you can also listen to mp3s. Just a thought.

We haven't graduated from CD's to MP3's yet. We're old and sort of low tech. We have a huge collection of CD's and six of those Pioneer 12 disc changers, so we used what we already own. Our DD's have built in Sirus and those USB ports that you plug a memory stick into. That stick holds 1100 songs. If we go high tech, it will probably be an adaptor for the USB.
