My 1989 Trans Am GTA

I've been lurking here, but haven't posted much.. Just last weekend I purchased a new to me 1989 Trans Am GTA. It has 34.5k original miles, WS6 suspension, 5.7 TPI.

It does have some cheesy stick on wood grain interior kit that I'll be removing. It needed some very small things that I've taken care of. It has a little suspension clunking in the rear, so I'll be addressing bushings and shocks.

Overall it's a pretty much mint car that I'm enjoying quite a bit so far.

Plans for the car... restore to original quality, swap all fluids, get newer better tires and put Hooker exhaust on it (quad tips ftw!)

It fits right at home with my 11k mile 2000 WS6.

Looks great! Both cars! I would be torn every day on which car to drive.

I'm not typically a fan of wood accents like that, but at least from a distance in these pics, it doesn't look so bad. Maybe up close it doesn't look so hot.

Beautiful, clean car.

Congrats on the purchase of your GTA. I love the bright red on these cars, it looks fantastic. Also, I echo KSR's comments on the wood grain. I'd probably still take it off, but it doesn't look as bad as I thought it would when you described it before I saw the pictures.

Enjoy bringing this car back to its former glory, and feel free to ask some questions.

The WS6 is obviously a good bit quicker and more fun to drive with the 6 speed. The GTA is more comfortable with the cloth and easier to just get in and go. I enjoy them both!

I do think the interior being tan helps the stick on stuff to fit in a little better. That being said it isn't sticking everywhere and is sagging in spots.

I think it will look cleaner when it's back to it's original form 🤘

Re: My 1989 Trans Am GTA

Earlier I was going to reply "I don't know if it's just me or not but I kind of like the way the wood grain accents look with the Beechwood interior." I decided not to reply because I know most don't like them and I don't either on most cars because it looks tacky like a 80's to 90's conversion van. Now that a few other have chimed in saying they like the look I don't feel bad mentioning it now.

I like the way it looks in the pictures you posted. In real life up close it may not look as good, but in the pics it looks nice. If it looked as nice in real life as the pics I could live with leaving it on there, but you can't really argue with putting it back stock either.
