Which carb is best? Which air cleaner is best?

I have 2 questions, but i am looking for particular answers. First off, I have a q-jet off of a 1970 350 i want to use on my 350 i will be building. Any problems with these besides performance issues? If i dont use a q-jet, what is a good carb to use without over carbing. i am shooting for 300+ horsepower, but i dont want a gas guzzler. Also, i want to use an open element filter. I understand all the hot air problems but what are you guys opinions on these?

the quadrajet would be fine for fuel mileage and power. So would a Carter Thermoquad.
Fuel mileage is significantly better with warmer air entering the carburetor, but power would be way down.
The Carb Shop makes a very efficient and powerful quadrajet carb.

I had a Thermoquad on my 350, the small primaries gave good mileage but I could never get rid of the bog when the secondaries opened up.
