starter wires

on a stock 91 RS 305 tbi how many wires are suposed to be on the larger post on the starter? and how many are supposed to be on the smaller one? The car wants to start as soon as I touch the positive cable to the battery, and I just don't know which wire I need to take off/switch???? I have two wires that are red and connected to one eyelet, one single red wire, and the positive cable from the battery, and another 10 gauge wire that is either black or purple... the starter has a ground wire that bolts from itself to solinoid.

Re: starter wires

If it is trying to start when you connect the battery that means you are sending 12 volts to the smaller terminal. do you have one of the larger post wires laying against the smaller post. it should be easy to determine wich wires go where the small ones wont fit on the large post and the large ones are way to big for the small post, make sure no wires are touching, causing spark to jump between the posts
