anyone in MD?? i could use a hand drum to disc swap experience??
im tempted to try the swap myself but i dont quite have the strength to turn rusted bolts etc.. it would be great if i could get someone with experience provide a helping hand or just some supervision and advice in the steps taken so i dont break anything. im pretty sure i got all the parts mounting plates bracket caliper and brake hoses and ebrake cables etc. The searches i came up with were ok on the site but reading it didnt give me the utmost confidence since this is the only camaro ive got i certainly dont want to ruin anything or get stranded.
i'll chip in for gas beer or lunch for the help lol
was looking to get some help asap.
thanx

located next to the 95 exit.
located next to the 95 exit.
i got some basic tools, jack stands and ramp but no professional lifts. but theres plenty of space in my driveway. if i dont have a certain tool, the harbor freight store is 5-10 mins away i reckon we could get stuff there.

Sounds like your really close to me. I'm back behind the reservoir/horse farms off the 198w exit off of 95. I probably can't hang out but can definitely stop by if you're stuck, bring by tools... Shouldn't be that hard. Are you converting to early, late third gen or 4th gen rear disks?

not entirely confident to attempt this alone, especially cant afford to get stuck and have the car down and out for a long period of time,
im using it for local shows and some long distance travel fairly soon.
these are early model 4th gen 93-97 disc brakes.

It's not a hard task, even for a novice.
Make sure you have one of these:

and one of these, for those really stubborn bolts:

As long as you have the correct backing plates it's not a problem... I'm planning on running the same brakes on my '87, have all the parts sitting around for it and have mocked it up at one point, but they're getting swapped in with a moser 9".
Should be a bolt on with most 3rd gen axles, you might need to elongate a couple of the holes to get them to line up.
You shouldn't need the breaker bar, but even if you do go with my favorite instead, it's cheaper and 25":

I have one and love it, the only thing that i can say bad about it is that it's long enough that its hard to find room for it in the toolbox

hmm..well these were pulled off early 4th gen car, with caliper still attached to a thick metal plate. it got 4 holes in it. and those are for bolts. the end of the axle on mine got 2 and they look like much smaller holes. .. my axle flange looks to be the major difference...im still debating if i should even touch this.

Not sure why it matters that you sheared off 2 bolts... honestly, I'd soak them in a little pennetrant, tap them with a hammer a few times to try to knock them loose, then hit them with an impact gun... If they come loose, great. If they break off... well they're off and you're not reusing them
Somehow I confused myself in my last post and replied like you were going from 3rd gen disks to 4th gen disks, not from drum to disk (in my case I saved myself a little hassle of cutting and drilling by having moser make my 3rd gen axle with 4th gen ends on it).
Drums have a longer plate, which you have to cut to size (right through the bottom of the big hole) and drill the matching holes.
You're basically going from this (just looked around the axles I had sitting at home (third gen drum):
to this (LT1 4th gen disk):
Honestly, the worst part about the job is probably pulling the axles

Re: anyone in MD?? i could use a hand drum to disc swap experience??
ya ur right the bolts didnt matter, and my flange is definitely different then the one from the lt1 car.. i wonder if it matters if its gotta be lined up perfect or not. theres only two holes available and the new backing plate needs 4 and thier alot bigger, so maybe i can use the 2 old ones to line it up or somethin. ill mock it up and see what it looks like.
also had to buy a crazy long bar to break the nut loose since didnt have the strength to turn it with a regular ratchet, and then i also had to hold the other side with vice grips since it kept spinning around. i got driver side axle and backing plate off so far.

The plate indexes on the end of the axle. If the 2 existing holes line up with 2 then just drill them out to fit the bolts and put them in use them to clamp the plate in place. If they don't then position it as best you can and clamp it. Drill holes and bolt together and your good.
I'm a little surprised you didn't text me if u were having problems with the first side.

No good dead goes unpunished... I stopped by to lend a hand, thought I was going to help run some brake lines and get them bled and, well, broke a bleeder fitting... ARGH!
Anyone have a better idea how to get it out:
