the importance of the AC clutch relay diode

for all u with computer controlled engines and AC make sure there is a diode in the ac clutch connector. i found out the hard way by forgetting to put that in when i swapped engines. i fried my ecm so that the timing would randomly go way out and i would backfire thru the throttle body. needless to say i had to replace the ecm. at the same time my fuel pump went bad and the ecm ground wire came loose. talk about a hex on your car. i passed the emissions though my converter lasted the weekend then blew to pieces out my tailpipe due to bad fuel pump and lean mix

find your ac compressor. the connector closer to the belt is the clutch connector. there should be a diode, looks like a resistor stuck in the end of the connector.

my board looks fine, yet the cloth has been ripped where the cage was installed and it looks as if yellow type insulation is flaking off of it. (obviously some sort of dry rot i would assume) so i would like to redo it. is the yellow foam part the actual board that is falling apart?
