I need a T56 to get the 91 RS on the road. I am posting this here because I will drive to pick it up. Clutch and flywheel are not important and I will buy them from 355SS locally.

Tell me what you have and a price. I know someone has one collecting dust somewhere. If it needs a rebuild that is ok too. I will probably get it rebuilt anyway.

 

good luck with that one. I searched for 2 months. Finally had it shipped from a guy in north carolina. The only good deals I consistenly saw was LS1/T56 combo out of late models. Those went for something like $4200 with 36K miles on e-bay. If you are interested in an engine swap as well, I think that's an amazing deal.

 

i have an ls1 set up with 6spd trans selling for $3500 and it has 56k on the whole set up...this includes the wiring,ecm and everything like that

 

I've been searching for a reasonably priced T-56 for several months now. I check the newspaper classifieds every day. I have called on several wrecked F-bodies now, they have all been automatics.

 

Who wants to spend 4500 when I already have 7500 wraped up in a engine allready. It just seems people don't want to sell anything unless you buy alllllllll their stuff.

 

yeah, that's why I said "If you are interested in an engine swap ..." Problem is that people who run junk yards are not idiots, they know what is hot and they will hang on to it. They also look through newspaper regularly and go to car auctions just so they can by something before you do and then sell you parts for almost the same price they bought the whole car.

The advice I got when I was looking for a tranny is look for the one that doesn't work quite right. People will say something like, "pops out of 3rd" A lot of people will stay away from a tranny like that. But all it usually needs is a new synchro (could be as low as $50 bucks).

Since I don't believe in taking used parts and sticking them in my car "as is," I was planning to do a full rebuild on the tranny anyway, so I got the one that pops out of reverse. This is why it was sold for half the price of ebay or j/y.

There is one over at team3rdgen.com My friend just bought the engine he described and has driven this car. The trans is in good shape. No need for a rebuild.
