I think they will. But they won't replace that pipe you have installed in the place of the CAT....if the repair work involves that - I think they'd only install a convertor. But it's just a guess.

Confuzed1 is close.....
In Illinois, a shop that does exhaust work is "required" to replace any type of cat bypass pipes. There are some pretty hefty fines for them if they put an exhaust on it and don't make sure it has the emissions stuff hooked up. Most shops don't have a problem working on them tho, because it is never really enforced. I have a full true dual exhaust behind the dual cats on my car, but could have had them out. Call the shop first and tell them your story. Most that I have dealt with have no probs. If they do, don't go there.....

Well, there ya go.....I've heard of a couple places around here in WI. that will put a complete exhaust on for you without a CAT- but you won't get a reciept, no warranty and cash only.

Pretty much same thing here.... They just have to be careful cause it gets expensive if they get caught.

Work without Cat
I know a guy up here in Wisconsin, Milton area who does custon exhaust work..He is the best around and works out of his house..He does guarntee his work,,some of the best welding done I have ever seen..He did my 87 IROC, installed SLP headers, removed the A.I.R, removed the cat, and ran 3" stainless back to the flowmaster, then duals out the back..I have had so many compliments on the system, even at car shows, the judges like it too..Most shops will not install a new exhaust system on your car without the cat..Its against the law in most states..If you want this guys phone number..just give me a holla..
You will love the work this guy does...He can do work for SHOW, RACE, OR STREET... You just tell him what you want..You won`t be disappointed..

when i had my el camino noone would touch it unless i gave the okay to put a cat on it. i ended up getting an exhaust guy to do it on the side out of his garage for me. legally they can't as others have explained.
i noticed that you are in urbana. do they have emissions controls there? when i went to school in macomb they had nothing at all and noone had to worry about restrictions. its mainly up here in the big city area where emissions is a primary concern. its not a state thing its a city/county thing.

ha ha just tell them it's for off road only use. leave it there and payfor it, tell them you will pick it up after hours when you get your trailer
there is nothing wrong with doing that to a "off road car"

Sounds like a good plan! But take your plates off while it's on the rack!!
