It's been a couple of years since I last went to the drags in humbolt, more into the dirt racin, but hopefully I'll be able to take my 67 gto clone w/462 and run it a few times next year.

So I am finally part the third gen group. I just traded my 94 z28 for an 89 iroc t top t5 with built l98 carb. It is a bit rough with some rust but with time it will be awesome. Btw I'm in Ames.

 

Do we have a third gen gathering in iowa this year?

 

I'm like 10 miles south of you. I got an 85 Iroc that was originally tpi, but some idiot changed it to carb. I bought a 92 5.0 tpi with all electronics to put in. I'm planning a healthy 355 build and useing the tpi setup on it with nitrous. My car has some rust too. We are currently looking into building a 9" rear for it, and anyone else that may want one.

 

I think we should have a get together. I have a friend and a cousin with 3rd gens over by waterloo too!!

10 Miles?? Where do you live Huxley? Ya mine was a 305 tpi that went carb with a l98 with corvette alum. phase 2 heads. 11.5/1 comp.

haha thats pretty funny. Ya it was dieing on me. Turned out to be the battery which I figured but it wouldn't stay charged. They had to charge it to test it then the battery wouldn't work because I have top mount cables and it is supposed to be side. We were going to change the ends but they were too small for the wires. So I had to pay a bit more for a different battery but whatever. I wanted an optima but I didnt feel like spending 160. I had one in my old camaro wish I would have swapped them out lol.

West Liberty, Iowa here... just about 20 mins from Iowa City. Cordova is my dragstrip of choice... building up a 1989 Iroc Z 350v8 700r4 with a shift kit and plans for a 4.11 rear end soon! best 1/4 mile 14.6, but im hoping to get into the 13's soon!

I rarely drive it cause the roads in palo alto county suck!!!,Its a very stiff ride with all the suspention mods.I cant stand it when people ride with me and slam my doors,they close so easy...I dont drive it cause i love it to much,its kinda stressful,even parking at the grocerie store I worry about door dings n such,semis kick up rocks when driving,its like torture on it to drive in iowa,shitty place for a sports car. Id like to get 8000. seeings how i got around 12,000 into it,but Id take 7500.

 

Thats a little to rich for me but not for that car, it looks like its worth every penny. I know exactly what you are talking about when people ride with you. All you want to do is take care of your car and most people really dont give a $#!^. When you take it places to show it off you get some jealous ***** who just has to key it or slam his door into it. I feel your pain.

 

Ouch, that sucks man, i feel your pain. Thats too bad that the roads are horrid there, around my area most of them are pretty decent, just a few you gotta watch out for.

Yes, you. Haha. I'm a little south east of you. I'm just north of Davenport. Iroc project, bought it with a blown up 305 tpi, its now a 358 tpi. Swapped the nasty gray interior for a black interior...all kinds of fun stuff!

 

Sounds nice what year and what you got left to get done?? Do you ever hit up any car shows or clubs in d-port??

 

89 Iroc. Red. Hmm, gotta get exhaust on it, its a bit loud running open headers. HEHE Gonna do a power window conversion, so at the moment it doesn't have door panels. Other than that, its mostly done...well, as done as a project can be. I frequent a lot of shows in davenport during the summer, usually all the ones at Northpark.
