new Z28!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey everyone, i haven't been on this site in a few months, but i recently made a trade for a Z28 and just wanted to tell the story of how i got it cuz i think it's pretty incredible.
well...i used to have an 89 RS, 305 tbi, 115k miles, t-tops. it was a decent running car and very reliable to me over the last year, however appearance-wise it was a genuine POS. busted up front, little rust here and there, half in primer, etc. i put it up for sale and a guy came along that wanted to buy it. he drove up in his own 1984 Z28, fresh fully rebuilt 383 stroker motor with performance heads, intake, exhaust, big cam, holley carb, t-tops, 4" cowl hood, black trans am wheels, and a 4 point roll cage. before i showed him my car i expressed interest in his so he showed me all this and let me hear it and all that. the thing was a BEAST, and he told me he has 3 third gens and all of them are drag cars, and that this is his slowest one and used to run mid 12s, but currently needs a carb rebuild so it doesn't have a lot of pep at the moment.
anyway, i showed him mine and i wouldn't budge a cent lower than $1000 and he didn't have that kind of money so he declined and was quiet for a few days. the next week he called me back and asked how much i liked his camaro that he'd driven over when he was checking out my car. i said "ummmmmmmm very much." LOL. he said "wanna just do an even trade?" this got me thinking. of course at first glance i was extremely happy, but i tried to make myself not get excited because something's WAY fishy about all this. he wanted to trade a Z28 with thousands invested in it, no major rust or problems at all (besides the carb and a NASTY exhaust leak) and 450 hp at the rear wheels.....he wanted to trade that for my 1989 RS with a stock 305, NO mods whatsoever, and major body issues. this was strange to me, but to make a long story short, yes, we did end up doing the trade. i figured at the very least, even if he was bullshitting about everything and the motor turned out to be garbage, i'd still have a decent looking shell with a roll cage set up in it and still would probably come out with the longer end of the straw. well i was right.
this car is SICK!!!!! i'll put pics up soon lol. yeah the car definitely needs a rebuild on that carb, cuz its not getting enough fuel and has little acceleration, but after i swap a quadrajet on there this weekend and completely rebuild the carb, get a replacement header on one side to solve the huge exhaust leak, and POSSIBLY a new torque converter, this car will be good as new and SMOKING the tires all the way down the block! i'm so freakin excited and still can't believe i got this as an even trade for an RS.
one question: how does one change the dipstick on these cars? because the one i have leaks, so i got a new one and want to install it tonight to stop my minor oil leaking problem..thanks
