well, one time me and a friend were changing head gaskets on a 94 grand am v-6 and i came late and him and someone else had just finished bolting everything up and wanted to see if it would start. so i said turn the key.

note: we were in the garage with the door closed and i was right in front of the engine

what they didn't tell me was that they cracked the fuel regulator and "just wanted to see if it would start" and they left the battery charger on. so he cranks it and fuel comes spraying out and hits the positive side of the battery! whoosh, flames 4 feet high. i whip open the garage door and throw a bucket of snow on the engine.

now i am afraid everytime i work on a car it is going to catch fire. i always have people looking for fuel leaks now

Not really a weird story, but when we rebuilt the trans on my IROC, we found an aluminum nail in one of the valve body passages, not to mention that the trans was built to pre-86 specs and it was missing a ton of clutchs and steels.

Friend of mine checked his after an alignment and found a wrench in the spring.

I'll never sell my car, but if I did and someone took apart the A/C vents they'd find a socket that fell down there when I was taking out the dash pad once. I'll go get it someday.
