emmissions in Illinois

For you guys that live in Illinois (especially near chicago)i am looking into buying a iroc-z or GTA, but most of them seem to be fuel injected. i really don't want fuel injection because it is to expensive. if i change over to a carburated engine will i pass emmissions? i am asking because fuel injected cars usually run cleaner. just incase you guys want to know why i want to change over is that for the amount of power that i want to make it will be too epxpensive. I am only 18 i can't afford to spend $5000 to get 350 hp

Well, each car puts out different amounts of pollution. I couldn't say if you would pass or not. All I'm pretty sure about is that we don't have to pass a visual inspection. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

****ing emissions

CHANCES OF PASSING THE EMISSIONS ARE SLIM IF YOU GO CARB ESPICALLY IF ITS AFTER THE 87 MODEL AS OF FEB 1ST I THINK THEY LOWERED THE PASSIBLE EMISSIONS NUMBER. I THINK IT DOWN TO .90 NOT 100% SURE BUT I KNOW THEY LOWERED IT.

hehehehe, dude, you can hit 350hp on a fuel injected 350 pretty damn easy. Do and exhaust, intake, a cam and port your heads and there ya go. Dont let fuel injection scare you. Its very easy to work with and there is a good amount of parts out there to beef it up. I also once though that it would take $10,000 with a TPI 350 to hit 13's, but no more. By this summer i hope to be in the low 13's/high 12's with the combo thats in my sig plus Dart Heads and a new cam. Total cost (including the car) should only be around $7,500 and thats with the trans too. Please dont ruin a perfectly good TPI car by putting a carb on it.
