smog regs in IL
im currently living in madison, wi... and im thinking about moving to IL. my problem is this, im wondering what my likelyhood of passing smog inspections their would be on my camaro. it's an 87 iroc, 350 tpi. no smog pump, no cat. straight exhaust, except for the muffler.
i would like to keep my car, and if needed to pass smog, id put the smog stuff back on, but im not sure if it would work, after not being hooked up for so long.... how much would it cost to get this stuff put back on?
anyways, help would be apreciated

I had the same problem with my Trans Am. I failed bad with most of the smog stuff removed. I put it back on and passed...barely.

I'm not sure where you could get a listing of places that don't do emissions- I know that areas like Kankakee, Grundy, and LaSalle don't do emissions. Maybe you should try the Illinois epa website. I cannot be for sure on this one, but I think the address is iepa.org

so, your telling me that as long as i stay out of the areas that are green, my car could cough bad s*it 24/7 and they dont really care, and i cant get fined?
From what I understand they do no testing in the other parts of Illinois which means they have no way of knowing how your car is running...There should be an email address on that site somewhere which they do actually respond to..only took them a few days to answer me last time
Here in the western burbs of chi they are CRAZY about smog regs. My STOCK 305 tpi failed. then i had to put on a new cat because mine was gutted. After that a passed...barely! Good luck if you plan on comming here, everyone in my area and has a third gen has failed at least once.
sorry, but thats big city life i guess

P.S. - If it takes you 35 minutes to get to Freeport on 20 you really need some work. As long as you keep it below three digits at Pec, you can do it in twenty easily.

Sunbound,
Why are you planning a move? Tired of beltline traffic? Looking for a career opening? Want to be able to laugh at the Bears close-up? What?
